!st trip to Acadia - MDI - Bar Harbor. Collier House was chosen due to Trip Advisor reviews.

We stayed in the newest unit, the Creek Retrea. We were the farthest unit from the main house. Very quiet.

The unit has 3 floors. Lowest is the bath/jacuzzi area - very nice, clean, double vanity sinks, roomy.

The second level is the sitting area - little fridge, gas fireplace, tv - nice but the couch was old, wouldn't spend much time there anyway.

Top level is the king bedroom - armoire, TV, bed, skylight windows. Mattress was rather hard, pillows were extremely flat - bring your own if you want to sleep !

Main house is where breakfast is served - excellent food, nice friendly server, George the owner/chef is very accomodating and helpful, and tells some funny Maine stories.

All in all, we liked this B&B very much and would stay there again - but I missed my dog so we most likely will seek out dog friendly accomodations next time so we can bring her with us.

I have very mixed feeling about this place. I'll start with the good.

Very large spacious rooms. We stayed in the Pond house. The property is beautiful with a big pond with paddle boats you could use and picinic tables and benches nearby for reading or watching the ducks.

Its close to Acadia National Park and the breakfasts were great! The host was friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him over breakfast.

The price was very good for the area.

On the down side...
The walls were paper thin and I have to agree with the previous review about sleepless nights. The Pond House is a duplex and we could hear every sneeze, burp and conversation in the room next door as if the occupants were standing right next to us. To add insult to injury the people in the next room had their tv blasting away continuously at a volume that was pretty intolerable even in our room . I realize that is not the fault of the property owner but I would recommend some soundproofing or removal of the tvs. Who needs a tv on vacation to a park area anyway?

Its about a 15 minute drive to the town of bar harbor and if you are coming home after dark, the roads can be intimidating since they are pitch dark, winding, and steep in places. I think the hotel is no closer to the park than is Bar Harbor.

So mixed feelings. If you think the good outweighs the bad then give it a try.

Peaceful! Comfortable! Welcoming! This is the place to stay if you are visiting Acadia! Our first trip to Maine and Acadia. We were most pleased with our stay at the Collier House. The room was RELAXING, bed COMFORTABLE, WONDERFUL JACUZZI with fireplace in the bathroom. We were in the Carriage House, very QUIET with room to spread out. We even did stargazing at night by the pond! Our host George was the BEST HOST! EXCELLENT BREAKFASTS (THEY DON'T GET ANY BETTER!) , GREAT CONVERSATIONS, and recommendations for restaurants and attractions! Away from the "business" of Bar Harbor. Close to Acadia. We will definitely be back! Our little piece of heaven!

My wife an I experienced a hard bed to sleep on. We could hear every car that came down the road. I felt the rooms were musty and unclean. The only bright spot was the breakfast. I would never stay at this place again.
