“Another day in paradise!!!!!”

I stayed in the suite Dauntless for four nights. It has a beautiful view of the ocean and mountains from the comfortable king size bed. We saw amazing sunrises and sunsets. We could see all the mountains of the National park. It had a very cozy sitting room and the bath tub was a unique clawfoot type. The staff where very friendly and helpful about telling us places to go. We can't wait to go back next year!!! Thank you

“A place to get away from it all”

This is a great option for those looking to be a bit removed from Bar Harbor. I agree with some of the other reviews here that the Moorings Inn is a quaint option. The bed was really comfortable and it was awesome to sit out on the lawn in the morning to watch the boats coming and going from the marina. The staff we encountered were very friendly and accommodating. As far as the "bones" of the our room, we attempted to open one of the windows and the blinds came tumbling down. As we tried to put them back up, we noticed that the bracket was hanging from the wall by a thread. Nothing a hammer and nail couldn't fix, but considering this is not an inexpensive lodging, you'd think these types of things would be taken care of. Every time i moved, the headboard did too. Not sure if it was attached to the bed frame or not.

Room Tip: I realize you can't control whether others are rude or considerate, but the Osprey room is right...

“Never ever again - rotten place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed in the Island Queen room. When we arrived a was glad to stay only for one night. That was the most expensive and rotten place and we had on our two week tour throughout Maine. It was very disappointing when we arrived. We got this as a wedding present and the room looked totally different from what was shown in the internet
We have to admit - great view - but the rest, forget it. If the owner says they have antique furniture in the rooms - I have to disagree - they are old and something for the trash. Wires for TV etc. were hanging around - not hidden somewhere. We have seen much nicer, friendlier and cheaper places in much better shape. We know, the season is short, and everybody should earn money, but not like this.
The bathroom was of poor quality for an Inn of this standard.

If we ever come to Maine again, we will not stay in this place and we will not recommend it to anyone.

Dear Guest,

Island Queen is part of the lighthouse wing that extends from the main house of the inn toward the water. It is an appealing room with its amenities of kitchenette, king size bed, and ocean deck. However, it is not in the main house of the inn. Per your review we have had our electrician re-evaluate the wiring of that room, and are making any necessary improvements. As all of our rooms, suites, & cottages are uniquely different we really do welcome these concerns in person. We could then make the necessary enhancements and upgrade you to an accommodation that you are happy with.

Sincerely,
The Moorings Inn

“Great location but not a 5 Star hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We stayed in the Starboard room and this was our second trip to this room. Cozy room with a wood stove that we enjoy along with a nice balcony. Very small shower and no bathtub. The toiletries are poor quality for an Inn of this standard. The bed is a problem because you need to climb over the person on the side to get out and the closet is at the end of the bed and does not open all of the way. Definately time for the little sofa to be replaced too.The breakfast is continental style like a roadside hotel with boiled eggs, bagels, muffins and coffee. The views are great one of the reasons we returned here again. But upon booking the room this year a few months in advance we were asked for the full amount by personal check upfront. Which we thought was a little odd. They do not take credit cards. We love Maine especially MDI. But this will be our last trip to The Moorings Inn.

“Deceptive Advertising”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

The staff was nice, but that's about all positive we can say about this place. The access ramps are dangerous, and the parking is too far away for handicapped individuals. No handicapped spots "nearer" the inn. The driveway needs upgrading, with many holes that were full of water from the steady, driving rain (not their fault). The room (Island Queen) is MUCH smaller than the internet pictures would indicate. You'd better have great knees to get down to the toilet seat! The seat was loose. The water pressure is very weak. There are not enough electrical outlets for any additional uses. The chairs are very thin and old. There was no switch near the door to turn on the lights at night upon entering the room. The screen door had apparently broken, and they hadn't bothered to fix it. The continental breakfast is weak, and the orange juice was fermenting. I had none the second day. The bed was uncomfortable. The room was musty, and there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Apparently, they think you can exhaust by opening the little window in the bathroom and then the little window in the back storage room. NOT!!! The towels are paper thin, but they ask you to reuse them to save water and energy. While we like that idea, these were not the towels to reuse. There is no place to hang them to dry. There is no toilet paper holder, so you'd better have great shoulders, as you have to reach behind you for the TP (and then the seat moved!). Put the TP on the bathtub if you don't want to have to see your chiropractor after your visit. Nice views on the walkway, but the chairs are hard metal, and very uncomfortable and low. We didn't bother asking for the money back as we left a day early, and, from these reviews, it appears we needn't have bothered. The area is a tacky industrial area, which of course they conveniently forget to include in their advertisement. Please don't be fooled by what you see online. It isn't what you will get when you make the mistake of staying there.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!!!!!

Dear Guest,

Our accommodations offer a wide variety of options. Renovations are taking place continuously.

We welcome our guests to let us know of any dissatisfaction they may have at their earliest convenience. If we can upgrade you to another accommodation we will do so immediately.

We do our very best to accommodate any handicap needs. We do welcome our guests to keep their vehicles in the check-in turn around as long as possible. Our desk or housekeeping staff would have been happy to valet the car if that was a need. We are often juggling tasks but it is our priority to make a guest feel at ease.

We are proud to be neighbors with the distinguished Hinckley boat company, former owners of our inn. We are in a boating section of Southwest Harbor. The only reason that the inn is able to be in this particular breathtaking location is because it is grandfathered here. For this reason we are the only inn on this point and in the village of Manset.

We have had our electrician add outlets to the room, and are having our contractor assess the ramps. We are discussing your other concerns as well, and making improvments where appropriate.

Sincerely,
The Moorings Inn
