This is a 6-room inn that provides very clean and comfortable accommodations in a peaceful setting a few miles from Camden Maine. There is also a very fine restaurant that is open to the public that is located in the inn (see a separate review for that). The presence of the restaurant enhances the inn and the presence of non-overnight people in the restaurant (which serves from 6 to 8 PM) does not disturb the overnight guests.
When one approaches the inn one sees right away that the folks who run the inn (and have done so for about 20 years) care a lot about their inn. The grounds are beautifully kept and the exterior of the building looks to be in fine condition. A covered entryway allows you to unload fully protected in all kinds of weather. There is plentiful off-street parking. Nearby are miles of hiking trails in parks, some very gentle, some more strenuous that will yield fine views to the ocean a few miles away. And n not far away is the seaside town of Camden Maine with may shops and things to do.
We found the room we had to be very comfortable, and very clean. This room, as it was called, was really a set of three rooms with its own little hall. This is a unique room at the inn, with a bedroom, bathroom (also sparkling clean) and adjoining sitting room (with another bed), which makes it ideal for a family with up to two children. Other rooms are more standard, en suite, with at least one of of them having a second twin bed so that up to three could be in the room. The room we had had a bed that was very comfortable, the linens soft and pleasant, the lighting good, a modern flat screen TV, adequate wall sockets, etc.
There is a small refrigerator for use by guests and an on-demand coffee maker is available at all times. There is wireless available throughout the inn. There is a good variety of DVD movies available, some games and a pleasant common space. There is also a very pleasant second floor outdoor balcony for guests to use, with chairs for twelve arranged around three tables with sun umbrellas. Some of the rooms also have access to other balcony seating.
The innkeepers share the duties of taking care of the inn. Maryann and Manuel are gracious, caring and very helpful. They have high standard and it shows in many ways. They have very good knowledge of the area and freely share it, but are not intrusive. They are there when you need them, but to not intrude on your activity. Their twenty years of experience shows in many ways. The innkeepers live in separate quarters attached to the inn and are continuously available in the rare event that some problem should arise.
The inn also has, in addition to the restaurant, a small bar area where one can find just about anything that you would expect to find in a well-stocked bar. The bar has a small fireplace that adds to the ambiance on cold evenings.
Breakfasts are creative, fresh and lovely to look at. Our breakfast consisted of juice, very good coffee, fresh pineapple (carved in a creative and user-friendly way), wonderful pancakes with a remarkable blueberry sauce, and a cinnamon-twist pastry. Most everything is made in-house by Manuel, who was trained in France and has worked n France and London. You will rarely find someone with his skill available to make your breakfast no matter how widely you travel. We understand that there is an alteration of the main breakfast items so that, for example, had we stayed a second day we would likely have had some variety of hot egg-based dish with bacon or sausage. A third might have had some other non-egg dish, likely something other than the superb pancakes.
This inn is wonderful to experience and so are the folks who run it with pride.
