We took a last-minute weekend getaway in November to Kennebunkport, ME, and it couldn't have been better if we planned it for weeks. We traveled with another couple, and we all had a wonderful stay at the Old Fort Inn. The inn was a delight, and it set the stage for a most pleasant trip. The reception and public areas of the inn are beautiful, stylish, and very welcoming. Sitting by the fireplace was cozy. Until 8 p.m., you can even order a glass of wine and sip it in front of the fire before dinner. Our bedrooms were in a separate 2-floor building behind the reception building, and there is no elevator. So if you have trouble with stairs, book a 1st floor room. We stayed in a Classic King room, which was spacious and provided a terrific seating area with a loveseat, armchair, and TV armoire. The decor and furnishings were lovely. The four-poster bed had just the right firmness and was so comfortable. Behind folding doors was a bonus surprise: a kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, coffees and teas! There were also snacks that were very reasonably priced, and the popcorn was free. We loved the heated tiles and heated air that you can set in the bathroom. The bathtub was a bit old but fine. Linda, the Asst Gen Mgr, was the best! My husband and I have stayed in some of the best inns and b&bs all over the world, including the Captain Lord Mansion in town, and we agree that the reception we received from Linda was the warmest, friendliest, and most sincerely welcoming we've ever experienced. We missed afternoon snacks one afternoon, but when we came back to the inn to freshen up before dinner, Linda gave us some lemon cakes and tea to enjoy in our room for later. Breakfast was an expanded continental, but there was quiche one morning, along with hard-boiled eggs, and there was home-made french toast the next morning. Coffee was delicious, and the fresh fruit, granola, cakes, muffins, bagels and pastries were great. Upon departure, Linda gave us a goodie bag filled with water and snacks for the road. A big thank you to Linda and the terrific staff at the Old Fort Inn for a lovely and perfect weekend in Kennebunkport. We will definitely be back!
Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs, book a first-floor room.
