My husband and I just returned from a holiday in Kennebunkport. We stayed at the Chetwynd House Inn from August 6th until August 9th and took advantage of the "Free Tuesday night" special.

We were very pleased with the location of the Inn-we were steps away from the restaurants and shops located in Dock Square-we parked our car and were able to walk to many points of interest or take the Trolley to the beach (Gooch's Beach was our favourite) .

The Inn itself is a pretty old mansion with a patio filled with flower pots. We were very comfortable in the room we stayed in (the Blue Room), and the guests we met at breakfast were very kind and ready to share suggestions about day trips they had made. Bob the inkeeper and his colleague Fran were very friendly and "non-intrusive". If you needed help, they were there, but you didn't feel like you were an intruder in someone else's home (a fear I always have with bed and breakfast stays!)

My husband and I are in our early 30's and relatively low-maintenance. We do not need a whirlpool bath or flatscreen TV in our hotel rooms. I actually enjoyed the fact that our TV was of the "old school" variety and did not have a remote-the good old days!

The location and great value (our stay included very big breakfasts served on fine china every morning and afternoon cookie snacks) made this an Inn I would definitely recommend.

As for Kennebunkport itself, we had a lot of fun on the beach and enjoyed eating out at great restaurants. Our seafood dinners at Windows on the Water and Stipers were great, and my lobster roll at Alisson's was very tasty! Federal Jack's was a fun place to have a beer and a great cup of chowder.

If you are taking a mini-break like us and have limited time to see everything, I would recommend excursions like a Trolley tour (you get a good overview of the town and its history), and a boat trip (we went whalewatching and saw some fin whales and dolphins-bring warm jackets and wear long pants though!)

We love Maine and we would definitely come back to Kennebunkport and the Chetwynd !

Great location, right around the corner from Dock Square. Bob the innkeeper is great...attentive without being overbearing. The inn is a great value for the money. It is not a luxury inn, but it is very clean and you cannot beat the location. The home cooked breakfast every morning was wonderful, served on heirloom china in the dining room. Each morning we had a fruit cup, etiher a cinnamon bun or pancakes, and bacon, eggs and toast, juice, tea and/or coffee. The bedroom was appointed with traditional poster bed, federal dresser and desk with damask bedcover. The mattress, however, was hard as a rock and the pillows were flat and uncomfortable. The bathroom was small, very clean, although rather outdated. The TV was an old model with no remote control. Overall, the inn is a great value for the money, especially with its location. You literally turn the corner and you are in Dock Square. There are no fluffy pillows, flowers in the room, or afternoon tea/cordials. But for the money, you get a clean, rather comfortable room with a fabulous location. And, again, Bob is a great guy who goes out of his way to make you feel welcome without overstepping.

My wife and I spent four relazing and engaging days in Kennebunkport over the July 4th weekend this year. We were looking to vacate the Boston work scene and also get a deal. The Chetwynd House Inn covered both and more. Bob Knowles knows the business and is a veteran at this Innkeeper thing. He has created some ingenious ways to make himself available while not always being around. He cooks up a mean and ever-flowing breakfast and has probably 'kissed the Blarney Stone'. He also has a 'free Tuesday' offering that sealed the deal for us.
While staying at the Chetwynd House Inn we met two couples from foreign locations (Canada and New Jersey) and shared some interesting conversations about the relative cost of a gallon (liter) of gas (petrol) to traveling across Tunisia to having to pay sons to come on vaction with their parents.
Just a block outside the center of Kennebunkport the Chetwynd House Inn provides walking access to all the local Kennebunkport restaurants and shops. We visited a micro brewery, experienced a uniquely-prepared and delicious lobster salad, tasted some great clams and had the time to truly enjoy the food from venues that did justice to the downeast sunsets.
We discovered a small beach that did not require a parking pass and stuck our feet in the water,watched the younsters playing in the tidal pools and sportpersons fishing off the jetties.
After five o'clock when the parking ban was no longer in force we walked along the larger streatches of beach, accompanied by dog owners and folks wanting to reconnect with the ocean.
In Kennebunkport there are some gorgeous Inns and houses, beautiful venues to experience nature and oddities like the hanger full of antiques.
From our location we could travel north to Biddeford and Old Orchard and south to Olgonguit and Kittery.

All-in-all we felt that we recieved great value by staying at the Chetwynd House Inn.
