I think I can safely say I agree with most of the reviews about the Lodge. Sofie, the receptionist/manager really makes the place what it is.
The main reason I chose the Lodge was because it was the cheapest place I could find in what is a very smart area. I don't think I had realised quite how smart the area is - very boutiquey with cute shops and beautiful houses. So, relatively speaking the Lodge was good value. However, I have stayed in more comfortable places for the same money or less in other areas of the States. So I guess you pay for the location. But it is very clean and certainly "does the job". Breakfast is nothing special but better quality than many "continental" breakfasts I have had in various motels. You get muffins, raisin bread, cereals, oats, tea, coffee and juice. But these are superior muffins to most you get in motels.
That all said though, were it not for Sofie I would probably have come away thinking "well, that was alright". As it was, however, I came away thinking, I enjoyed myself there. Travelling as a single female, I really appreciated Sofie's friendly, outgoing and helpful nature. She was a pleasure to have a chat with, always wanting to help you make the best of your stay and give advice about good places to eat and pretty places to visit.
So, in terms of the lodge itself, I would say physically nothing special, but for somewhere like Kennebunkport it is relatively good value. in terms of staff, however, I would say this is where it comes into its own. You can stay at the smartest places but if the staff are unfriendly it can really taint your stay. Here, however, you come away with the unexpected feeling that you had a really nice time at The Lodge at Turbat's Creek.
