“PLEASE, PLEASE look elsewhere!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

You get what you pay for, in this case even less! We booked for a two night stay in Sept, but had to leave due to a horrendous skunk odor in the motel section. I should have realized something was amiss as I was checking in, the owner casually mentioned that the doors and windows had been opened since morning to "air out" the room....Since we had just driven 8hrs non-stop and even with the strong smell, we decided to forge ahead and stay the night. When I went up to the office the following morning to let the owners know we couldn't possibly stay another night enduring horrible headaches and not sleeping due to the odor, without hesitation, a refund for the second night payment was offered and laughingly a reference was made to the fact that Pepe la Pew was back again. Obviously, since this had been an ongoing problem, it should have been brought to our attention as we checked in. The skunk turned out to be a blessing, I wouldn't have wanted to stay here a second night anyway. Even if a place is outdated as far as decor, the property and grounds should be maintained, painted, rugs & windows cleaned, and decent towels provided. Unless you are absolutely desperate for a place to stay, PLEASE, PLEASE look elsewhere.

“Old but surprisingly comfortable for an unbeatable price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

These are very old tired looking cottages strung along a dimly lit driveway and we almost passed on them but the price was so low and we were only going to stay one night so we decided to take a look. Glad we did. We were directed to cottage 12. The furnishings were old but clean, the bed was clean and comfortable, and there was lots of room. Full kitchen and an old but functional tv. All in all the cottage was surprisingly comfortable. The security was adequate and the area seemed safe. Didn't need the AC. The owner was pleasant and helpful and directed us to a good restaurant nearby. Location quite close to the main business section of Kennebunk. Much much cheaper than other lodgings in the area. Very quiet (the summer season was over). Not for everyone but very acceptable lodging at an unbeatable price. Would stay there again.

“Nightmare!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

This place was totally unacceptable. Cabin was not clean. Door did not have a deadbolt lock. Refridgerator was rusty. The sofa saged so badly that you would sit on the front frame if you were brave enough to sit. The blinds had bad slats thus not afording privacy. We quickly repacked the car and moved on to an acceptable property. There was no way we were crawling into the uninviting beds.

“Would pay more to stay some wheres else on a hot week.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

We did a family trip to go to the water parks in Saco. It was me My wife our one year old daughter, my sister in-law, mother in-law and nephews. Now to be some what fair, it was the hottest week of the summer so far. Now apparently to some people reviews there were charges if you left the AC on with the widows open. Except when we got there the widows were open and the AC was one. The AC was very old, and WAY to small to cool off three rooms. The whole reason to stay there was to that we could cook our own meals and would have to eat out. That never happened.
The first night was hot, not much of a breeze cooming threw the windows since one was blocked by a tree and the other by the other unit. But we got threw the night and went to the water park. We even closed the doors to the bedrooms thinking that it would at least keep the living area cool. Not a chance. Me and my wife came home first, it was getting too hot for our daughter. Sitting in the living room I has sweat dripping down every wheres.
Final my nephews and sister in-law went to the pool, which was very nice, and it was actually cooler out side than in. We tried to open the windows instead, one problem, no screen for the sliding glass doors, we kept that open till the bugs got too bad.
That night we all did not sleep. I have lived most of my life with out AC in the bedroom, but had never been this hot. Striped down next to nothing, no covers and was still sweating buckets. I had checked my daughter several times to make sure she was okay.
Oh, the beds, if you roll over too hard, you could bounce your partner right out of bed if your not careful....
When we got up it was still extremely hot in the living area, we made the decision leave a day early. The owner said they wouldn't charge us for the third night only because they could rent it out, but would charge us a cancellation fee, we didn't argue because we were too hot, we had people to meet up with at 9:30. Oh and she said that the AC was keeping up either even though the office was like a ice box compared to what we were in. With in an hour we packed and ate a quick breakfast and we were out, and went to DD to get into some AC just to cool down.
Once my brother in-law got wind of this, he called them. He wanted the fee back, and for them to reimburse for the poor night, and maybe even for the new hotel, since it cost more. The woman he talked to said that it wasn't that bad(we vaction in Florida in the summer, and I have never felt that bad in a hotel), and that the AC just need to be clean out....Well why doesn't that get done before every guest?? And Im sorry, but the filter wasn't going to make that much of a difference.
They actually had the nerve to say to him that we didn't even do the dish's when we left. After the night we went threw, they wanted us to stay to do the dish's? We cleaned up as much as possible, other than that we left it very clean. Which also brings up a concern that the people prior are responsible for clean dish's, which could mean that you are potentially eatting of of dirty dish's with who knows what on them. They should be sanitizing between every costumer, they could even get small dishwashers for the units to ensure a clean environment. And at the last hotel with the same small kitchen set up, the maid actually asked us if we wanted her to do the dish's.
After giving her a few chance's to refund our money, he hung up called the card company, explained what happened. The response was "You mean they let them sleep in that environment with two young boys and a one year old?" The with held the charges with out even a blink of the eye. The card company loose more money then they did and then new that was wrong to charge for that.
Oh and the new hotel, old AC, but maintained and was the right size for its job. I was actually a little on the cold side at one point.

"We let you sleep in that environment..." You can not fix a problem if it is not brought to your attention. Guest stayed for 2 full days and NEVER mentioned there was a problem with the a/c not working and the room was hot (record high temp. of over 100 degrees during their stay). On the third day the guest came to the office to say the room was hot. I offered to go and look at a/c and was told she just wanted to check out and head home. She was given a refund for the 3rd day.

Upon their checkout it was discovered that the room was trashed. Counter and sink were full of dirty dishes that had been sitting with caked on food. Some of which had to be thrown away. Gallon of maple walnut ice cream dumped into sink and walnuts clogged up drain, juice splattered all over the walls, several towels and sheets had stains on it.... It was discovered that the issue of the a/c not working at 100% was due to the filter needing to be changed and also the guest had the a/c on the incorrect setting.

We are fortunate and are able to offer 2-bedroom cottages that can accommodate large families at a reasonable rate . They soon discovered that most hotels only allow 4 or 5 people to 1 room. They ended up staying at another hotel and had to take 2 rooms at a much higher cost then what we charge. It is absurd that the guest feel that we should pay the difference in cost of what they were paying at our property compared to what they had to pay for the other hotel that they checked into especially when they didn't give us a chance to see what the problem was!
