We did a family trip to go to the water parks in Saco. It was me My wife our one year old daughter, my sister in-law, mother in-law and nephews. Now to be some what fair, it was the hottest week of the summer so far. Now apparently to some people reviews there were charges if you left the AC on with the widows open. Except when we got there the widows were open and the AC was one. The AC was very old, and WAY to small to cool off three rooms. The whole reason to stay there was to that we could cook our own meals and would have to eat out. That never happened.
The first night was hot, not much of a breeze cooming threw the windows since one was blocked by a tree and the other by the other unit. But we got threw the night and went to the water park. We even closed the doors to the bedrooms thinking that it would at least keep the living area cool. Not a chance. Me and my wife came home first, it was getting too hot for our daughter. Sitting in the living room I has sweat dripping down every wheres.
Final my nephews and sister in-law went to the pool, which was very nice, and it was actually cooler out side than in. We tried to open the windows instead, one problem, no screen for the sliding glass doors, we kept that open till the bugs got too bad.
That night we all did not sleep. I have lived most of my life with out AC in the bedroom, but had never been this hot. Striped down next to nothing, no covers and was still sweating buckets. I had checked my daughter several times to make sure she was okay.
Oh, the beds, if you roll over too hard, you could bounce your partner right out of bed if your not careful....
When we got up it was still extremely hot in the living area, we made the decision leave a day early. The owner said they wouldn't charge us for the third night only because they could rent it out, but would charge us a cancellation fee, we didn't argue because we were too hot, we had people to meet up with at 9:30. Oh and she said that the AC was keeping up either even though the office was like a ice box compared to what we were in. With in an hour we packed and ate a quick breakfast and we were out, and went to DD to get into some AC just to cool down.
Once my brother in-law got wind of this, he called them. He wanted the fee back, and for them to reimburse for the poor night, and maybe even for the new hotel, since it cost more. The woman he talked to said that it wasn't that bad(we vaction in Florida in the summer, and I have never felt that bad in a hotel), and that the AC just need to be clean out....Well why doesn't that get done before every guest?? And Im sorry, but the filter wasn't going to make that much of a difference.
They actually had the nerve to say to him that we didn't even do the dish's when we left. After the night we went threw, they wanted us to stay to do the dish's? We cleaned up as much as possible, other than that we left it very clean. Which also brings up a concern that the people prior are responsible for clean dish's, which could mean that you are potentially eatting of of dirty dish's with who knows what on them. They should be sanitizing between every costumer, they could even get small dishwashers for the units to ensure a clean environment. And at the last hotel with the same small kitchen set up, the maid actually asked us if we wanted her to do the dish's.
After giving her a few chance's to refund our money, he hung up called the card company, explained what happened. The response was "You mean they let them sleep in that environment with two young boys and a one year old?" The with held the charges with out even a blink of the eye. The card company loose more money then they did and then new that was wrong to charge for that.
Oh and the new hotel, old AC, but maintained and was the right size for its job. I was actually a little on the cold side at one point.
