“Beautiful Cabin, Breathtaking View”

We visited Greenville, ME the weekend of December 7 to go on the Christmas at Moosehead Inn Walk. We rented one of the 3 Moosehead Hills Cabins (the Tomhegan Cabin) overlooking Moosehead Lake. It was wonderful – extremely spacious and very well-equipped. The large kitchen had everything you’d expect, plus items like a wooden rolling pin, pizza pan, a colander. There was a wood-burning stove with a supply of wood which we enjoyed, but the cabin was kept very cozy and warm with the regular heating system; the stove added atmosphere. The décor had rustic woodsy touches like birch-bark mirrors and a moose-themed shower curtain, but also had luxury touches like a Jacuzzi tub and tiled kitchen countertop. The 3 cabins are spaced well apart, giving total privacy.

The view of the lake and mountains from the cabin is phenomenal and can be seen from every room except the bathrooms. Two of the cabins’ closest neighbors are the upscale Lodge at Moosehead Lake and Blair Hill Inn, which are also beautiful properties. If you’re looking for a comfortable cabin experience and want to spend less money and get the same incredible views, I’d highly recommend Moosehead Hills Cabins.

We can also recommend the Inn Walk. For a very reasonable fee, we were able to tour 4 stunning inns and lodges, a private home, and a mansion owned by the Moosehead Historical Society, all decked out in their holiday finery. We got to see virtually every unoccupied room in each place, and they served delicious treats and beverages, too. This was a great way to spend a snowy pre-Christmas afternoon.

While we’re making recommendations, we’ll also suggest dropping by Lakeshore Provisions, a lovely gourmet food shop in town. They also operate a small café and bakery, and the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich on panini bread lived up to its name. All of the baked goods we tried were also delicious.

“Awesome lakefront cabin rental in Moosehead Lake region”

We were looking for a romantic getaway cabin in the woods, and this cabin fit the bill exactly:

[---------------] I suppose it would be great for families too, as there are two bunk beds (sleeps four) on the lower level, along with a washer and dryer. They take in the dock and canoes in mid October because of the weather/temperatures, and we were there at the end of October. The weather was miserable, but we had a great time anyway, which says a lot for the cabin. Family owned, they are anxious to please and readily available if you have questions. They also give you lots of firewood.

Not sure you can call it a cabin if you really want to live in it, dishwasher, microwave, gas range and stove, and all. The kitchen has lots of dishes, pots, pans, baking sheets, etc. It's new and energy efficient. The forced hot water heat was wonderful (if a little noisy at times), and the blower in the fireplace really cranked up the heat. There are a dozen or more board games in the closet - for kids and adults - and some paperbacks if you want to read. The view is spectacular from every room with floor to ceiling windows.

Only a 13” tv with dvd player, but we never used it and never missed it. I would suggest bringing a radio/CD player though.
The two bathtubs are both great. We are both about 5'8", 150 lbs. and if you are any larger, you may not be comfortable in them *together*, but alone you are fine. The upstairs tub has jets, but you are more sitting up, whereas in the main floor bath you can stretch out a little more.

In warmer weather I imagine the private dock and waterfront are great, along with two canoes. There’s even a fire pit by the lake. There are neighbors, but not so close that you don’t have privacy. The dirt roads can get a little rough, and you need a four wheel drive in the winter, but our Tiburon handled it like a champ.
Take the Kokadjo Road at dawn to see moose, unless it’s May – July in which case you should see them everywhere. The town is quaint and quiet. There are two grocery stores nearby, one with a liquor store inside. Several souvenir/craft shops in town.
We want to come back and do a “moose safari”, some hiking, and some white water rafting. Very highly recommended.
