“Poor Service and Rude Hosts!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011 via mobile

My husband and I were looking online at honeymoon packages in Maine when we came across this place. It looked beautiful online, next to the water, and advertised all of the things to do in the area; such as white water rafting, canoeing, wildlife tours on the lake, etc.
Once we got lost in the Maine woods we finally came to our destination at the Evergreen Lodge. It was definitely not what we expected..at all. There were no beautiful gardens to be seen as advertised, nor was there any water. The building was set up completely different than I could have ever imagined, it was a big let down.
After checking out our room, we immediately knew we would not be able to stay, the place was just not for us, especially for us on a honeymoon with nosey hosts and older people staying as well. Once we made that decision the owners became very rude, raised their voices to my husband and I and basically threw us out.
Needless to say that the Evergreen made out with $648 of our Honeymoon money and we didnt even have a sip of water or use the bathroom.

“Real Maine hospitality and a great base for touring”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

This was our first foray into the Maine lakes and mountains and the Evergreen Lodge was a fantastic base for exploring the area. The lodge is immaculate and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. We stayed in the Moose Room which had a decent sized bathroom with tub / shower. It had a balcony and a lovely view of the well-tended gardens.

Breakfasts were ample and delicious, served in the lovely sun room. There is a guest fridge where you can store your drinks

Owners Janice and Hank are lovely, genuine people who make their guests really welcome. I don't understand some of the remarks made by a previous reviewer and think they are really unfair. There is a lovely guest lounge and we spent a pleasant evening there talking to fellow guests. I think that chatting to the innkeepers and to other people and finding out about where they have been / stayed is all part of the B&B experience. If you don't appreciate that personal touch then maybe you are better off staying in a hotel / motel. We certainly enjoyed Janice and Hank's company - they are simply interested in their guests - and Janice went out of her way to be helpful and accommodating.

The lodge is just a few minutes drive from Greenville, and very close (walking distance) to a prime moose-watching spot. (I walked there early one morning - the earlier you can get there the better!). It's a great base for touring Mount Kineo, Lily Bay State Park, Kokadjo, etc. We took a scenic flight over Baxter State Park with Jack's Airtours - a great guy and an amazing experience. If you're looking for the 'real' Maine, this is it!

“Evergreen Lodge is our favorite.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

My husband and I are repeat guests of Evergreen Lodge, and we will most definitely want to stay there again the next time we are in the Moosehead Lake area. The best part of this bed and breakfast is it's innkeepers, Janice and Hank. They are wonderful and gracious, and have also done a wonderful job of arranging AMAZING excursion packages and dining for us during our visit in the area. The inn, itself, is beautiful, and well cared for, and the breakfast is always DELICIOUS and the atmosphere relaxing. It is like "coming home" each time we stay there. We would highly recommend Evergreen Lodge to anyone who is planning a trip to the Moosehead Lake area, and looking for a memorable place to stay, with wonderful and gracious hosts, and a delicious, home-cooked breakfast each morning.

“A beautiful property, great room, lovely hostess”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Evergreen Lodge is a great place to stay while at Moosehead Lake. The hostess Janice goes out of her way to accomodate you. She made reservations for us for dinner (twice) and for a seaplane ride. Hank was a history teacher and is very interesting to talk to. Engage him in conversation and you'll get an ex-military man's perspective on life!

Breakfasts are huge and delicious. No need for lunch!

The room we stayed in was great! The walls are all beautiful wood - no clutter with dusty antiques here. A very comfortable King Bed - lovely linens - beautiful and clean and very large. It had windows on two sides, making for a lovely cross breeze, and there was a fan as well. Even though we were there during the heat wave, the room was lovely and cool.

The property is about 5miles out of town but well worth the drive. It is set back from the road and is beautifully manicured and quiet. There is a large porch to sit out and enjoy a drink, and a lovely family room with large screen TV if that is more your style. We didn't spend as much time at the Lodge as we would have liked as we were so busy hiking. After a long day out, this was a great place to come back to.

“felt more like a stay in with in-laws than a relaxing B&B”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

We just returned from 3 weeks in N.E. and this was the worst B&B we stayed at, and perhaps the worst B&B / hotel experience I have had.

The owners are nice, but they are always around, as this is their home. I go on vacation to relax and thus, if I am sitting reading a book, watching t.v., etc. I want to do that in peace & quiet, not have a lengthy conversation with an owner who seems lonely or in desperate need of contact with people. It felt over-bearing and I was never "off-guard."

Breakfast was horrible. Who serves dessert for breakfast?! I love berry cobbler, but eating it as the meal I am supposed to start my day on feels so wrong and left me hungry, on a sugar high (followed by a totaly energy low) & just plain gross. Please serve healthier things for breakfast. Why not put out some yogurt, fruit, cereal and / or muesli out? When a guest asks for milk instead of cream, or says no thanks to another cup of coffee, please do not lecture them on how "healthy" either of them are and push that I take more. Respect that I am politely declining your offer.

I would never stay here again. There is no place to sit in the gardens they advertize. The 2 sitting rooms are really 1, as the family uses one at night.

The price is too high for the quality offered (of the rooms & of the breakfast). When I go on vacation, I want to relax & it just did not happen here.
