“Wonderful location, very clean and great breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

We just came back from spending three nights at the Moorings. This is a great location for accessing Reid State Park and surrounding town of Five Islands. We have been coming to this area for years and really enjoyed our stay at the Moorings. The place is spotless with great service and the owner was a wonderful host full of historical information about her great grandfather Walter Reid who donated his land to the state where Reid State Park exists today. I highly recommend a stay at the Moorings! Wonderful breakfasts as well!

“Beautiful location and relaxing getway”

We stayed for 4 nights at The Mooring and thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the 10-12 mile trek to civilization. That being said, there are several really great eating spots within 5-6 miles as well including a fun lobster harbor dockside restaurant a mile away. This B&B is very much "as advertised" with all rooms having an open view of the ocean. This is also a B&B that likes to provide some extras for their guests beyond a full and complete buffet breakfast every morning. The have ice, drinks, and even offer wine, beer and snacks in the late afternoon. There are a lot of common area rooms in which to spread out and relax inside the house, some with TV and some with views, or fireplace, including a big outdoor deck overlooking the ocean. If you like a quiet getaway place without the street noise and traffic, this is ideal. The price make it a very good value considering all the little extras they do. Rooms are all good size, clean and bright and the owner has a good sense of hospitality and what guests like. Very charming old home that has been throughly renovated and updated. WiFi included.

“Wonder Location....Peaceful Stay”

We were exploring the coast of Maine and came across The Mooring Bed & Breakfast. It was exactly what we were looking for.

The hostess, Penny was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. She's a great cook also.

The Inn sits overlooking the ocean. It is a peaceful place and a great place to get away.

“Fabulous”

My husband and I got married in Georgetown this summer and spent 2 nights at the Mooring. It is a fabulous place. The innkeep makes a delicious breakfast that is eaten in a room with a view! The location, right on the ocean, is perfect. The grounds are well tended and the rooms are clean and nicely appointed.

“Idyllic Bed and Breakfast on the Ocean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2005

This was the third consecutive year we stayed at the Mooring B & B, all of our visits in Sept and Oct.

Hostess Penny Barabe has done a most thoughtful job of catering to the needs of her guests. Guests have access to the entire premises, including a sun room and spacious deck overlooking the ocean and a quaint Spanish style room with satellite connected TV. Thus The Mooring feels more like an inn than a B & B.

There are five bedrooms, all with ocean views. The rooms have varied bed arrangements, from queens to twins. All have air conditioning and private baths. This being The Mooring's 4th year of operation, it is possible some of the mattresses need to be replaced. My wife and I found the twin mattresses in the Lighthouse Room to be a bit soft and sagging. We prefer firmer mattresses.

The breakfasts are delicious. They typically include sausage or ham, an egg or french toast specialty, fresh fruit salad, and blueberry muffins. Coffee is served at 7:00 and breakfast at 8:30.

Room rates are typical for coastal Maine, less costly off season.

The Georgetown peninsula is an unspoiled gem. If you are looking for a quiet, rural ocean getaway, Georgetown is for you. Reid State Park, with its two long sandy beaches and rocky headlands, is very near The Mooring. Entrance fee is $1.50/person/day. The beaches are not crowded. If you come early, you may even have them to yourself. We have seen bald eagles, seals, harbor porpoises, and many species of birds from the beaches. Kayakers will find a lot to explore on Georgetown.

There are not many eateries on Georgetown, but the few that do exist are fabulous. Five Islands Lobster Company offers boiled lobsters, steamed clams, corn, etcetera on the wharf. Watch the lobstermen bring their catches in while you dine on local shellfish.

Robinhood Free Meeting House, in the middle of the Peninsula, offers five star dining. Make reservations in advance. All the menu items are delectable. I recommend the "rare" tuna appetizer and the crab cakes.

The Josephine Newman sanctuary has hiking trails with attractive views of the coves. Several boat owners offer excursions by arrangement. Georgetown Pottery is worth visiting, as is the Maine Maritime Museum in nearby Bath.

If you are seeking roller coasters and lively nightlife, Georgetown is not for you. But if you want an unspoiled ocean experience, you will adore Georgetown. The Mooring blends perfectly with the idyllic ambiance. We plan to revisit The Mooring every year indefinitely.
