“Charming, comfortable, spacious and glorious oceanfront views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

My friend and I just got back from a one-night stay at The Mooring on Georgetown Island on our way home from Camden. It's a gorgeous location and a perfect place for an ocean-front wedding, which appears to be one of its draws. The driveway leading to the house is lined with white hydrangea trees and the gardens are filled with flowers and aquatic plants. Spacious deck in the back with tables and umbrellas. Our 2nd-floor room was large, comfortable and beautifully decorated (every guest room has a theme AND an ocean view) and we fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocky shore below.

Penny is the perfect hostess -- she had a bottle of wine and two glasses waiting for us when we arrived and a list of local restaurant menus for us to peruse. She's friendly, professional and doesn't hover. Breakfast was MUCH better than I've come to expect at most B&Bs -- piping hot, delicious French toast with bacon, blueberry muffins and fresh fruit salad. Fabulous coffee.

Penny's 9-year old grandson gave us a tour of the grounds and provided a bit of history as well (he's the great, great, great grandson of Walter Reid, the donor of spectacularly pretty Reid State Park, just down the road from the inn.)

Unfortunately, The Mooring's website doesn't begin to do justice to the lovely house, gardens and ocean views. It's a shame, because The Mooring is a great getaway, not too expensive and close to both Bath and Portland if you're in the area.

“Oceanfront B&B”

Upscale B&B directly oceanfront with elegant grounds to explore. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable; we had the downstairs room with porch facing the ocean. Penny has thought of everything you would ever need to make your visit welcoming, Fresh blueberry muffins and drinks, hot and cold, always available. Breakfast was exceptional, buffet style and delicious.Cheese, crackers and wine for afternoon snack, or try some of her freshly baked cookies. A beach towel and bag to enjoy the beach that's close by, all the comforts of home. The home is big so there is plenty of room for privacy if you so choose or gather with friends and new aquaintances on the back deck facing the ocean. A great find for someone who does not usually stay in a B&B, we'll be back.

Room Tip: First floor room with oceanview patio

“I wish we could have stayed longer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

My wife and I stayed here on our way to Camden. It was so delightful. We wish we could have stayed more than one night but that was our fault. The breakfast was delish. The view was amazing. See our photos. The owner operator cooked the breakfast and she was very personable and attentive.

“Wonderful location, very clean and great breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

We just came back from spending three nights at the Moorings. This is a great location for accessing Reid State Park and surrounding town of Five Islands. We have been coming to this area for years and really enjoyed our stay at the Moorings. The place is spotless with great service and the owner was a wonderful host full of historical information about her great grandfather Walter Reid who donated his land to the state where Reid State Park exists today. I highly recommend a stay at the Moorings! Wonderful breakfasts as well!

“Beautiful location and relaxing getway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2009

We stayed for 4 nights at The Mooring and thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the 10-12 mile trek to civilization. That being said, there are several really great eating spots within 5-6 miles as well including a fun lobster harbor dockside restaurant a mile away. This B&B is very much "as advertised" with all rooms having an open view of the ocean. This is also a B&B that likes to provide some extras for their guests beyond a full and complete buffet breakfast every morning. The have ice, drinks, and even offer wine, beer and snacks in the late afternoon. There are a lot of common area rooms in which to spread out and relax inside the house, some with TV and some with views, or fireplace, including a big outdoor deck overlooking the ocean. If you like a quiet getaway place without the street noise and traffic, this is ideal. The price make it a very good value considering all the little extras they do. Rooms are all good size, clean and bright and the owner has a good sense of hospitality and what guests like. Very charming old home that has been throughly renovated and updated. WiFi included.
