“A Winner in Freeport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

The best B&B we have ever stayed in Maine, bar none! Have been repeat visitors for many years, now. Stay there before AND after our annual Windjammer Cruise out of Rockland. Our hosts Rick & Monica are fabulous hosts. Full of local information. The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable. Nice group sitting area and adjacent brekfast "porch." Easy walk to downtown. LL Bean and all the other top shops and restaurants. Many rooms to chose from and all are viewable and reservable on their awesome web site. Our entire sailing group stays there every September.

Room Tip: If handicapped - chose a ground level room. Call the Inn if you have any special needs and they wil...

“We won't stay anywhere else in Freeport - wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Over the past ten years or so, we have stayed at several B&Bs in Freeport and never really found one where we felt right at home, and that had everything we look for in a lodging. I'm happy to say that the White Cedar Inn is exactly what we want - we've stayed there twice now and won't go anywhere else, at least for as long as Monica and Rock are running it.

They are a great couple, very hospitable and accommodating. The inn is immaculate, beautifully furnished and maintained. The innkeepers regularly embark on improvement projects to keep the standards high. Breakfasts are fantastic. There is a comfortable guest lounge with a TV and lots of good books and useful information. The inn's location is great - you can walk to shops, LL Bean and restaurants. Tea and coffee and home-made treats are available at any time and there's a guest fridge for your boxed leftovers - really handy for next day's lunch!

Monica and Rock are passionate about Maine and will share their enthusiasm and recommendations, if you like. We are just sorry it took us so long to find the White Cedar, but now that we have we'll return every time we're in Freeport.

(PS I know it's six months since we stayed, but I have just read the very inaccurate review posted in August and felt the need to redress the balance.)

“Loved our stay, will definitely return!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

Husband and I drove up to Freeport on a beautiful April day with luggage but no reservations anywhere. We tried one B&B on the same street that had a "vacancy" sign, but were ignored by the staff. Drove another block or two and happily discovered the White Cedar. The innkeeper was friendly and inviting. She had several rooms availalble and showed us all of them. We selected a lovely suite with a sitting area and woodstove. Our stay was very comfortable and quiet, and there were nice touches available in the kitchen so we could have cofffe and dessert or wine in our room. The inn is within walking distance of many of the main street shops, but just far enough away that there is no bothersome street noise. We had breakfast out, but only because it was French toast that morning and my husband doesn't like French toast.

Room Tip: Ask to see the available rooms, they are all different. Our suite had its own entrance, which was ni...

“A charming home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

We stayed for two nights while seeing the Freeport area. This is a lovely inn, the innkeepers are helpful and friendly without being intrusive, and made excellent recommendations for restaurants (Azure Cafe - yummy) and places to see. The business aspects were handled very professionally (email confirmations, etc.) The rooms are immaculate and beautifully decorated, but not fussy - this is a place you can be comfortable and do not have to be afraid to sit on the bed or chair. There were many things that made the inn special - great bayberry soaps, plenty of hot water for showers, A/C, good lighting, common areas with books, magazines, games, TV. I especially liked the guest kitchen and breakfast set-up. There are individual tables, so you do not have to sit with other guests if you don't want to - great for those of us who aren't at our best at breakfast. The food was great - tasty and just the right amount, not overly loaded with sweets and starches like some B&Bs. I appreciated the enhanced security of having the guest entrance locked at all times (guests have access code) in addition to room keys. The outdoor areas were great for sitting outside under the big trees on warm afternoons. The location is very convenient to the shopping areas of Freeport, you can walk most places. Our room in the front had a bit more traffic noise than we are used to, being on Main Street, but if you are a city person it would probably not bother you a bit. Next time we come, we will probably ask for a room further back. The pictures on the website are accurate. Overall - a great B&B run by innkeepers who know their stuff.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back would be quieter. Bay windows in the front rooms are charming and let in lots of...

“Excellent girls' getaway destination”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

My college girlfriends and I chose Freeport, ME as the first destination for our annual girls' getaways three years ago (this says October 10, but that was the furthest back I could go for choices -- it was actually October of 2009). Based on the website, we chose the White Cedar Inn as our place to stay. It was an excellent choice!

The owners were very welcoming; offered a truly scrumptious breakfast, and the bedrooms were very cozy and comfortable. We'll definitely be back!
