E. Boothbay isn't off the beaten path, it's WAY off of it! But what a delightful location, and Five Gables is a wonderful place to stay while enjoying it. The rooms are for sleeping and bathing, period. Very small. But the house provides all its guests with a cozy living room experience. The porch is absolutely fabulous. A great place for afternoon tea or evening wine surveying the lovely port. Mike Kennedy is justifiably proud of his gourmet breakfasts and he and his wife are delightful hosts. Highly recommended.

After you're welcomed as an old friend, unpacked in one of the uniquely and artfully designed rooms, relaxed on the porch, perused the book collection, admired De's wonderful artwork on tables, walls and fireplace, taken in the view of the bay and caught up with Mike and De adventures and had a good night's rest...now you're ready for one of Mike's amazing gourmet breakfasts. The menu changes daily and Mike never runs our of new, scrumptious recipes any more than both of them run out of warmth and hospitality. Not to forget the coffee, tea and cookies late afternoon. It has always been a satisfying and brilliant stay at Mike and De's Five Gables Inn.

We stay at the Five Gables every year because we know Mike and De are going to do everything within their power to make sure we have a great stay. It's hard to find things to say that aren't just a rehashing of the positive reviews by other guests, but the incredibly delicious breakfasts, the views of Linekin Bay from our room and from the spacious porch, the cozy common area with a crackling fire in the fireplace, and the graciousness of the hosts bear repeating. Oh, and so do the fresh-baked cookies and tea in the afternoon and the chocolates and your choice of Port, Madiera or Cream Sherry in the evening. We travel extensively and have stayed in some outstanding properties but nowhere do we feel more at home and more "taken care of" than at Five Gables. If you plan to visit the mid-coast area of Maine you owe it to yourself to stay at the Five Gables Inn.

This was our 5th year at the inn and it was great as always. Mike and Dee, the innkeepers, are wonderful hosts. You feel very welcome and comfortable. If you have any problem or need Mike goes the extra mile to be helpful. My parents have traveled with us the last 3 years and this year my Dad was recovering from a broken leg. Mike did whatever he could to make it easier on my Dad. Breakfast is great and eating it on the porch overlooking the harbor can't be beat. There is afternoon cookies with tea and at night port and sherry. On cool nights you can relax with a book in front of a cozy fire. Guest here are friendly as well. We look forward to many more stays at this inn.
