“A Weekend in Castine!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

We have been visiting Castine Maine for several years now to see our son at the Maine Maritime Academy, opting to stay in Bucksport, what a mistake with the Castine Inn available right in the center of town!!! From our arrival Saturday night, through our departure Monday morning, we were treated to true hospitality and comfort. The location on Main Street is only two blocks from the Harbor, and about three blocks from the college. The staff at the front desk made numerous calls to local restaurants and services when we made inquiries about possible dining or activities. The room was a 2 room suite that accommadated our travel this weekend with my father-in-law, allowing us to stay together with plenty of privacy at a great price. Breakfast was included, which each day included fresh scones, juice, and choices that included poached eggs or real Maine blueberry pancakes, or the second day, bacon kitsch or french toast. I would recommend the Castine Inn to everybody wanting to feel at home in Castine. ( the Inn is open from MMA Graduation weekend - early May to early October)

“You can and should do better in Castine.”

Indifferent service, maintenance, cleanliness, facilities, especially compared with the inn across the road. There doesn't seem to have been much effort or concern put into providing a comfortable vacation experience or making a guest want to return.

“Breath of Fresh Air”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

This is a lovely place to stay! We booked at the last minute and they only had their lowest-priced rooms available. I have to say that is was quite a bargain. We paid almost twice as much for rooms that were half as nice elsewhere. I liked the teal-and white color scheme, which gave it a bright, fresh feeling. The toiletries were great. The bed was firm and comfy. We left the window open the first night to let the air in, and neglected to lower the shade. The sound of churchbells going off on the hour and the light streaming in prevented me from getting much sleep. Lesson learned-with the shade drawn and the window closed on night two, I slept much better. There is a ceiling fan and a portable fan as well. I was not bothered by noise from the other rooms. The breakfast room is beautifully decorated with murals on all sides. The scones are flaky and delicious. There are two hot choices, although one day I just had the scones, cereal, and lovely fresh fruit, and was quite content. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. My husband inquired about hiking trails, and the lady at the front desk was more than happy to provide information. I honestly can't imagine staying anywhere else in Castine.

“A wonderful discovery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

Castine is a wonderful picturesque village just south and far away from the madding crowd of Bar Harbor. The Castine Inn is well maintained and fun for an overnight stay. It feels recently renovated, rooms are large and very comfortable, clean, well priced and nicely decorated. The inn has a bar open from 4-10. We enjoyed wine on the large porch that overlooks a well maintained garden. You can walk to the dock area, restaurants etc. Breakfast is served in a large airy dining room. Table service was good and th food fresh. We appreciated free coffee for the road. Innkeepers were attentive and professional.

“Just Awesome!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

My husband and I stayed at this Inn this last weekend. We planned a quick road trip and needed something quickly. We looked all over and everything was booked, except for a room at the Castine Inn. Since we were on a budget, they were so helpful in getting us a room that was not too expensive and still allowed us to experience a B & B.

The website to the place is very nice, but we did not have very high expectations as pictures can be deceiving. When we arrived in Castine, boy did our opinion change. This Inn is right in the heart of the small city and a stone's throw away from the harbor. The main eating places are a walk away and it has a gorgeous small town feel.

We got a room with a view of the harbor and twin beds. Originally we had booked for a room that had a bathroom down the hall, but since a room was available with a bathroom in the room, we were upgraded for free!!! It was awesome.

The room is very simple, but for our purposes (relaxation) it was perfect. The pillows, bed, bathroom toiletries were all great.

The best part of the Inn is the outdoor space consisting of the porch and the garden. It is just lovely sitting on the porch or walking through the garden.

The breakfast is delicious and presented in such a nice way.

At breakfast the warm scones are to die for and the breakfast is just perfect. There is coffee and tea available starting at 7 AM and it is self serve until breakfast.

Overall, it is a great place and we will be visting it again in the future. It is not ultra modern or with tons of amenities. It is quaint and with a lot of character and charm and we highly recommend it.

This was a great way to end our trip. Service, helpfulness, breakfast quality and presentation, outdoor sitting space, everything.... just awesome!!!
