My girlfriend and I live relatively close to Camden, but still wanted to stay at a Bed & Breakfast for a romantic weekend retreat. Even in the "quiet season" they had a great selection of rooms. This was essentially a surprise for my lady, and I'm so glad I made this choice, because it exceeded both our expectations.
First, the short notice. I called for one room, one night, that night... and we were showing up later than regular Check-In hours. Cyndi Ostrowski was more than happy to accomodate us, so glad we were at least showing up before nine so she could get a solid dinner recommendation. It was Jim who greeted us at the door, at seven thirty, and was more than happy to give us the tour, offer amenities, recommend dining and make us feel comfortable.
Second, the room. Exactly what I envisioned as a New England bed and breakfast coastal town, and it made her dance behind his back in excitement. The woodstove.. the four post bed.. even the rugs, ceilings, trunks and windows. This place was inviting, and even an hour and a half from Portland, we were totally on vacation.
Third: Breakfast. Homemade granola, local yogurt, fresh waffles, berry sauces and intimate setting. I could go on, I won't, just trust. Both innkeepers prepared our meal, and served us gracefully. Jim chatted us up about travelling around the country while Cyndi wanted to know about our evening on the town. They filled us in to the winter festivities, which believe me, we'll most definitely be back for.
Our trip went spectacular. The Blackberry Commons was truly the focal point.
Room Tip: Go second story, go big bed, go fireplace.
