Although the location of Sur La Mer is okay, the B&B is disappointing. It has been allowed to become a little run-down, is not well furnished, and has poor service. You would do better to look elsewhere in Boothbay Harbor.

Everything you read on here is true. The location is exceptional-within walking distance to town (convenient as you avoid the parking headaches); the views, to die for. The Inn reminds me of a tired old lady--the porch is in disrepair, the furniture rusted. Our room had excellent views of the bay but adjoins the patio--so needless to say we kept our blinds (and windows) shut to avoid the noise. The furnishings, decor, etc.-tired and worn. The room and bathroom-filthy-so much so they didn't even make up our beds or clean the rooms. The breakfast-awful. We were there for two nights and landed their by accident-our original booking at a beautiful B&B in town had a glitch so the proprietors found us this place-the only place in town with rooms available, but now I know why--we would never have paid market price for our room-it was that bad. It's a shame too because Shane, Gene and Jay are exceptionally nice guys and are sitting on a goldmine with the location. With a little TLC, a minor facelift (furnishings, carpet, bedding) and some extra added touches (bring in someone who knows how to do breakfast right), they could really have a spectacular place and end up being on top instead of near the bottom.

My husband and I recently visited Booth Bay Harbor, Maine and stayed at Sur La Mer Inn. We were greeted by Jay and given a tour of the inn and the grounds. Our room was on the second floor with a breathtaking view of the Harbor. So peaceful and tranquil. We enjoyed Jay’s tasty breakfast out on the back patio as we watched the boats passing by in the harbor. What a magnificent view. We also stopped in for drinks and appetizers at their restaurant, Amore Italian Bistro. It is downtown which is just a short distance from the inn. We enjoyed our drinks and appetizers on the terrace overlooking the harbor. What a great mini vacation. We enjoyed the hospitality of Jay, Shane, and Gene and would definitely recommend staying at the inn. Thanks for making our stay so memorable. Marc and Myriam

We loved our stay Sur La Mer Inn, our room was on the first floor with a great view of the harbor. We were greeted by Shane and given a tour of the inn. Shane made a delicious early breakfast for us every day as I was attending a workshop. Gene and Shane were very accommodating to all our needs. This is a great location close to downtown but away from the noise and traffic. The terrace is delightful with a wonderful view of the ocean. We would definitely stay her again and recommend it to friends.
We also ate at their restaurant Amore Bistro and the food was delicious.
