“Average accomodations, wonderful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The main sitting room has a gorgeous lodge feel. The room was average, shower was great, as was the hot tub. Heater in the room is very loud when it's running. Recess light in ceiling was falling out over bed. Great location and staff had fresh cookies and coffee/tea. Not fancy but it suited it's purpose with a friendly smile.

Room Tip: They have a few king size beds available if you ask.

“50+ Getaway-Great Deal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We are a 50+ couple and just got back from Sunday River to take advantage of a great ski package at the Snow Cap Inn. This is a cozy Inn with very friendly service. As we were checking in, two bus loads of students were checking out! So we really saw a total of about 10 other couples so it was very quiet. Yes you can hear doors closing in the hallway, so if it had been busy with kids, it would have been a different experience.
The rooms are very adequate with updated comfy mattresses and the towels were also new. The tv had tons of cable channels, so chilling out in the room was not a problem. There are two areas with couches and gas fireplaces. Breakfast is served every morning with coffee, teas, oj, cold cereals, hot oatmeal, raisin toast, bagels, english muffins, yogourt and granola. You won't go hungry! Every afternoon at 4pm the fresh baked tollhouse cookies come out, but be on time, they go fast. The hot tub was really great after skiing, although a bit awkward having to go through the lobby in your towel and although the view of the mountain was nice, it's right out in front of the parking lot next to the front door!
This is not a short walk as advertised, but literally a 1 minute drive to the parking lot or a quick efficient shuttle ride. Not much else to do at this resort or in Bethel, so go to bed early and ski your buns off!!

Room Tip: All the even numbers have a view of the ski hill, and the second floor would be quieter.

“Need a cheap place to stay with great service?! Here it is!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Overview: I took my students(19) on a ski trip for most of their first time on the weekend of December 9-11, 2011. The Inn for those who are on a budget, looking for a place that clean, comfortable, and have the amenities you would get at most hotels and also has wonderful service. This is long, but gives you a semi-detailed review.

Arrival: We arrived on the night of December 9th and were checked in very quickly. They gave us all of the keys, lift tickets, and rental tickets we needed when we checked in. Told us all of the information we needed: slope information, bus times, breakfast, and rooms. The service here was phenomenal. Each person on staff went above and beyond their call of duty to make our stay at the Inn as pleasant as possible. From accomodating a large group for breakfast to the dinner plans in the Youth Ski Dorm to helping us store our luggage on the final day.

Location: The Inn is also quite close to the slopes, however as mentioned before you might want to take the local bus to the base. You can also take the bus to the local food places and enjoy a cold brew at the end of the day or a warm drink to bring your body back to life. The bus can take you to each of the establishments and runs every 30 minutes through rhe resort, if you miss it, just let the front desk know that you need a pick up and they will radio the bus.

Rooms: The rooms are a little dated, but offer a comfortable bed, nice pillows, warm blankets, and a TV. The sink outside of the bath makes it a great room for groups of more than 2 people. The TV gets very few channels, all with very odd shows, but you probably won't be watching much television anyway. A problem that most students had was that when they turned on the heater for the room, it would wake them up every time it turned on. I didn't have this problem because I turned on a low fan and piled up the blankets. But I know this could be a problem for some people who are light sleepers. Towels were not the best, they were thin and worn a little. Bed Comforters were a little thin as well, but nothing the extra they have in the room won't fix.

Food: Breakfast was very basic so you don't think it's a full hot breakfast, but for the price, more than worthwhile. We had cereal, pasteries, bagels, yogurt, fruits, coffee, hot chocolate, and teas. If you would like a hot meal, ask the front desk for information or head to a local restaurant. In the evening while we were there, they also heated up the fire pit out front and brought out stuff for S'mores, that was a first for a lot of my students, they really enjoyed that.
They also had cookies and hot drinks in the lobby at 4 when you get back from the ski slopes, so keep that in mind!

Other: There was a hot tub out front in the cold, after a day of skiing take a dip in it to sooth the tired legs, but ask if it is open for use. It looked closed and we didn't get in it until the last day. The main log is beatifully decorated and they have two fireplaces, one upstairs and one downstairs, so you can hang out around the fire and have some hot cocoa or tea in the evening. There is also a game room downstairs, it's nothing magical, but it's fun. Everyone played ping pong throughout the night. There is no bar, which would be a nice addition, so bring your own drinks if you don't want to spend lots of money at the resort bars.

Overall, I give it a 5 out of 5 for it's hospitality, cost, location, and overall value. And I thank the manager and his crew for working so well with us while we were there! If you get the chance, go with a group to get the group discount, but even without it, the Inn is very economical.

“If you are looking for a place closeby with great service, this is it.”

We could not have had a better time when we stayed at the Snow Cap Inn. It was my husband's birthday, and they spoiled him with goodies! The staff was SO kid and friendly, and at night there was a fire outside to make S'mores. It was an unforgettable trip. The lobby is very cozy with a nice fire and the breakfast is great.

I know other reviews have had negative comments about the rooms. No they were not the best rooms....but for avid skiers like us, who spend very little time in the room, what does it matter if it is not a 5-star hotel? We slept fine, and we were right at the bottom of the mountain. If we go to Sunday River again, this is definitely where we will stay.
