“Rooms need an overhaul, but very warm welcome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We had a nice stay here, the breakfasts are delicious along with the evening meals in either the bar or the restaurant. The steak is especially good in the bar. The major problem we had with this hotel was the standard of the room we stayed in. There was mould on the inside of the wardrobe and on the ceiling. We should have complained, but as we were only staying for 2 nights we couldn't be bothered. The staff are nice, more friendly in the restaurant than in the bar. The hotel itself is lovely and the welcome we received was fantastic. Would have given it 3 and a half stars if possible for the food and staff. Two for the room at a push but it was all clean, just rundown.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Oaks, so avoid that block possibly?

“shabby, but not chic”

this property has so much history and could be spectacular....but it needs a major overhaul. They should look at places like the Captain Lord Inn or White Barn Inn in Kennebunk or the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport for examples on how historic properties do things right.
My room had a flowered quilted bedpread that was stained--not a nice duvet with a washable cover. The blanket was one of those polyester velour things and not double sheeted--ugghhh. The pillows were old and lumpy. The bathtub was stained and could have used a good scrubbing with comet cleanser. The dining room was very worn--worn carpeting, chairs all dinged up and finish scratched and worn. Polyester table cloths and napkins which were not even ironed. The main building used to have an elevator but that was blocked off and no longer available. The dining room and bar close early, there is no room service, there was no mini-bar in the room, and the vending machine in the hall was out of order. All in all, a great disappointment.
My one recommendation would be that the staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Room Tip: deluxe rooms in main building are good sized, but elevator not available

“Cannot Wait For February Break!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

My husband & I went back to Bethel this Thanksgiving. Mainly for for the Bethel Inn! We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We were married there and we fell in love with the Inn all over again!

Our Thanksgiving Dinner was a feast, and we had virtually no complaints. We found the staff courteous, and quick to help us if we needed anything at all. The Inn had many updates over the past 10 years and we couldn't believe how beautiful it looked in the new fallen snow.

We took the girls swimming in the outdoor heated pool and I think it was the highlight of their weekend. The Inn is family friendly and is even offering dog sledding and horse drawn sleigh rides this winter. Needless to say we booked for the holiday week in February. Cannot wait to go back.

“Thanksgiving weekend 2011 its ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

It is old, and some parts of the hallways have a "shining"-esque feeling. But it was nice, especially after the first snow. Room was nice, two queen beds in the bedroom and a fold out for the kids in the living room. jacuzzi tub, and a nice balcony. the gas fireplace was nice, but got a little warm. I couldnt find the controls for the wireless ceiling fans and they were set to high speed.

the outdoor pool was heated and the entry was indoors for our little daughter to play and stay warm.
Breakfast was very well done, with a little more than i had expected. However, stay away from the Meal plan. dinner is downstairs in the tavern and not that much variety. plus it was more food than any of us needed, and was more than we needed to spend.

The staff were pleasant and overall i enjoyed the inn and the town.

“Disappointing!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We exchanged some of our timeshare points through RCI for a two night stay in October 2011. The deluxe studio was beautiful although the glasses we used in the studio were filthy. There was an additional housekeeping fee for us to pay which I subsequently disputed as the bed wasn't even made by housekeeping after our first night. The Inn is beautiful but tired. The reception staff were miserable, even rude, and children were running around in the bar area. We were not impressed. Then to add insult to injury, there was a wedding on our second night which took over the entire place. We went elsewhere to eat. We will not return and will not recommend it to friends.
