“Innkeepers are wonderful!”

Pros: Cindy and Fred were very nice and made us feel welcome; the room (Chulmleigh) was beautiful and comfortable; the food in the restaurant was fabulous!

Cons: the only "con" we had was be aware if you stay in the room(s) facing the street....during our stay there was alot of traffic and it was very noisy, especially early, early in the a.m.

“AUTHENTIC ENGLISH PUB WITH GREAT HOSTS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Briar Lee Inn for a night recently. We stayed in the Dartmoor room, which was at the top of the house and was very comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant, which served superb food. The barman, Brian, was a great guy, very friendly and chatty. Our hosts Cindy and Fred have now got their Inn and Pub running very efficiently. We stayed midweek and it was busy in the restaurant and the pub had a great atmosphere. Our breakfast the next morning was served by our host Fred and was very tasty. We had such a good time staying here that we wished we could have stayed longer. We definitely recommend it to everyone. They hold regular quiz nights and even have a darts board!!.

“Something out of a Holiday Movie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2010

My husband, 22 yr old daughter and I spent a delightful extended weekend here from Feb 26-Mar1. We were visiting our son who works at Sunday River just 10 short mins. away. It snowed while we were there and out of our spacious bedroom window the scene was like a Christmas card. Fred and Cindy, the proprietors were more than gracious, the B&B was spotless, the coffee heavenly, the beer choices were many and very cold and the breakfasts were filling and yummy! We ate dinner there one night and I would recommend the Beef Vindaloo highly. We enjoyed our stay at the Briar Lea Inn very much and would love to go back. What a relaxing vacation - Thanks Fred & Cindy!

“Great little B&B with owners that get it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2010

Stayed there over Presidents' weekend with my sister's family and it was just right. Just ten minutes from Sunday River and near the little main street in Bethel. Breakfast was very nice and the pub worked well for us after a day of skiing.

Highly Recommend!

“Fun Inn, great location,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2010

My brother, sister and all our spouses stayed at the Briar Lea in early jan. '10. We had 3 rooms, the Dartmoor (doublebed) and Exmoor (kingbed) were on the 3rd floor by themselves and were quite nice. The 3rd room was the Chulmleigh which was even nicer and larger with an electric fireplace that looked rather nice and even put out some heat. All the bathrooms were newly appointed. The Chum. bed (king) was firm which we loved. Nice touches were mints and coffee in the room.

Breakfast was beautifully served but just ok. The portions were not quite large enough for our hearty appetites. Good homemade sausage, average bacon. Eggs nicely done. French toast made from last nights french bread? pre package jelly. Great coffee!

The Jolly Draman is VERY popular for apre ski! the 2 tiny dining rooms and small pub room fill quickly once the ski areas close. We were tempted to reserve a spot on the sofa ahead of time. Our first night - I think they forgot our reservation as we waited in the bar, we ended up dining very late that night! That said the dinner was very good and the new owners HAD just taken possession of the inn very recently, so we cut them some slack.

Even though our Chulmleigh room was just above the bar/restaurant, it all closes down so early that noise was not a problem.

Tips: make a dinner reservation early. Get to the pub early and enjoy some good drafts (and good martinis) There is a snowmobile/multi use trail just behind the property that you can snowshoe, skate ski (narrowly) or classic ski. Also you can walk across the street to another restaurant (Rooster something) which also has very good food. The Adventure center (laser tag) is also within walking distance.
