“love it here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2009

We have stayed at Quietside in one of the log camping cabins and in a tentsite another year. Both times were great, (even though it rained). Clean, convenient bathroom and nice hot showers. tent sites are built up on platforms so tent doesn't sit in water if it rains. cabin had comfortable beds and a bookshelf stocked with good beach- reads. All around good bargain, can't wait to go back!

“Owner's were unresponsive and misleading”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2008

My husband and I used this campsite on our recent vacation in Bar Harbor. On our way up there I called several times to let them know we would be late checking in - she never once returned our call to let us know all was well and that we could check in whenever and our key would be there, which we discovered upon arrival. This did cause us stress, though, not hearing back from her all day. DON'T EVER EXPECT A CALL BACK AFTER YOU'VE PAID YOUR DEPOSIT. And then based on the cleanliness of the cabin and the showers, I' m not sure what she does...

We stayed in a cabin which was warm and definitely quiet which we wanted. However, the cabin wasn't particularly clean - it didn't even look swept.

When we booked the cabin the female owner told us that it was "close" to the bathrooms. This is important because I have to go many times throughout the night. We arrived to discover "close" meant through a clearing, down a dirt path, continuing over a wood chip path, over a "bridge" which was nothing more than a couple of planks of wood over some still water, down more path, past another cabin, through another clearing and THEN you arrived at the bathrooms. This was cabin #6. Which was right next to two other cabins. Our neighbors were quiet, but we definitely saw them. So if she tries to sell you on privacy, too, don't buy it.

Then because of the water behind our cabin we had tons of mosquitoes which are a problem there anyway but definitely not fun in the middle of the night when all you want to do is go to the bathroom.

For the last night, we had asked to change cabins to be closer to the bathroom. She said it was booked. However, during our trips to the bathroom we never a saw a car out front and the next morning it was uninhabited. RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE She probably just didn't want to clean two cabins. What are we paying for???????

We will NOT stay here EVER again. They are unprofessional and, through their silence and unprofessionalism, rude.

  • Liked — It was quiet.
  • Disliked — Everything else.

“Eh.”

My initial contact with Quietside was wonderful, they seemed incredibly accomodating and added an extra night onto our stay last minute. Unfortunately, it stormed all night and we woke up a bit soaked (which is Mother Nature's problem, not Quietside's). There wasn't any running water available during our first night/second day and no where to go the bathroom/shower (the toilets were FULL to the brim with...you can only imagine). When we let the main office know we were thinking about getting a room in town and were dying for a shower and toilet they simply said, "uh, yea" instead of offering us a dryer or cabin which they did for another commentor. This review probably makes my husband and I sounds a bit "snooty" and we aren't...we are major campers and drove 18 hours to camp in Maine. BUT, not having a shower or toilet after an 18 hour drive is a bit much, even for us.

Also, our site was not at ALL what we had expected. We like our privacy when camping, we don't like looking over our shoulders and seeing our neighbors, their tents, coolers, etc...We felt a bit misled by the websites description of their sites. The site we were in, we had 3 sets of neighbors and could see and hear all of them. These sites are not as private as they come off as being (private from the road but not private from your neighbor). Also, get ready to get in your car to do ANYTHING. There isn't any access to hiking, swimming, etc. You are basically camping in someone's front yard, sheltered by trees. I think next time we are in Maine (we LOVE it there) we will be camping at the State Park and just fork over the dough so we has bathrooms and stuff to do during the day.

“wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2006

I have stayed at Quietside numerous times---the owners are wonderful, extremely helpful, and the cabins are clean, comfortable, and quiet. My only regret is that I cannot get there as often as I used to since I moved from Boston, but I recommend Quietside all of the time to friends traveling to Acadia....

“a 'diamond in the ruff'”

first of all let me just say, i almost feel hesitate commenting about this site, because i like feeling like im the only person that knows about my secret campsite. :) camping here is the most 'looking forward to' trips year after year!

fyi, if it matters, im now 25 yrs old, and i go with about 5 close friends (25-30yrs)... so this is great for any age.

i've been coming to the 'quietside' every year for about 7 straight years now and every year that goes by it seems like its better than the year before.

and like the previous traveler stated, it all starts off with the facilitators/owners sue and sara make the experience absolutely amazing! every year that we go, the cabins we use are very clean and the grounds are very well maintained.

what makes it a delight too are the available facilities on the grounds. you have two latrines on the site which have men and women areas, washers and dryers, nice HOT showers every morning, fire pits at the cabins, and mini-refrigerators & heaters in the cabins!

...for all you ruffin' it campers.. i don't want to here... its still awesome!!!

as for the location... i love it. its in a nice quiet area. minutes away from acardia national part, the 'fire tower' trail, bubble rock, etc. as for bar harbor, perhaps a 20-30 minute drive. so you know your not in the hustle and bustle in which bar harbor attracts...

i would love to pour out all the great memories camping here.... but instead you should experience it yourself, you will not be disappointed.

p.s

i love it so much here, i commute from rhode island each year just to stay here year after year.

i'm telling you.... before you know it, you can't wait until the next year to go again... its been like that for 7 years now and going strong! and my friends feel the same way. it seems like every time we go out to drink a few brews, at least once someone will mention a funny story or just how great it is there and that how we can’t wait for the next time.

o.
