“Beautiful Quiet Campground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

This was a great getaway for our summer vacation. My family of 4 and our couple friends decided to camp here in early August. The whole island was just beautiful and we were more then happy to find this little gem nestled in the forest just a little drive past Southwest Harbor. Some great places to eat in the area and just a short drive to Bar Harbor. We stayed in 2 beautiful cabins at the back of the campground and never heard much from any of the other sites. It was nice to walk around and the had a basketball hoop the the kids enjoyed playing at. The bathrooms were what you would expect from a rustic campground but were kept clean. There was a port-a-potty just a quick walk from our site and was clean. Overall we loved this campground, and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Mount Desert Island and not camp on top of other campers. Will definitely be back someday hopefully to see the beautiful autumn foliage.

“Great Place”

I went to MDI in Sept 2010 with my husband and 14 month old son. It was our first time in Maine. We went with the intention of finding a campsite once we arrived. We had done some research before we left so we had some ideas as to what campgrounds we might want to stay at. Quietside Campground was one of the places we had looked at. We drove around asked some locals about places to stay, they gave us some ideas but they were all really big campgrounds and we were looking for something a little more private. We couldn't find Quietside at first and happened to find it while driving around looking for campsites. We went when hurricane Earl was hitting the east coast so our plan to tent camp wasn't looking so good. So when we got to Quietside we asked if they had any cabins available, we got very lucky because their A-frame cabin had just become available. We checked it out and the second we walked in it we booked it. It had a little kitchenette with a microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot and fridge. It has a tv with a vcr (a little outdated there) but we didn't go camping to sit in front of a tv. There is a couch, a gas heater and a wonderful deck off the living room. Upstairs has a built in futon bed with shelves and a spot to put a pack and play or even a cot if you wanted too. There was a fire pit and picnic table outside with a nice walkway to the cabin. The bath house is right across the way. Hot showers, running water, washer & dryer and very clean. It was a great place for our very curious son to be able to expiernece the wilderness and still be able to have a place to be able to play without having to chase him everywhere. The only downside to staying here is if you plan to spend alot of time at Acadia Nat'l Park or want to be in Bar Harbor it is about a 30min ride each way. So if you plan to go there plan to go and stay all day and go back to camp when you are done. It is not the place to stay if you want to go back and forth. The driving was a bit more than we wanted but because of how great Quietside was it was worth it. We are already planning our summer vacation and plan to stay there again this year. It is definately a place to check out if you are looking for a reasonable priced campground and aren't looking for completely secluded campsites. It is quaint and quiet and we highly recommend it. I am finding myself a little hesitant is submitting this review because the more people that know about it the harder it will be to secure our dates in the cabin. OH and by the way ... they are somewhat hard to get ahold of by phone because they only have office hours for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the late afternoon. I hope this helps anyone looking into staying here. I really can't imagine being unhappy here! Happy Camping!

“quiet camping away from the crowds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

We camped here in June 2009.
We pretty much had the place to ourselves.
I have a pick-up truck camper w/ a motorcycle trailer attached.
The owners set me up in a site, with open sites to either side to store the MC trailer once unloaded. Early evenings are "buggy" in June, so our screenhouse tent was very useful in the early evening skeeter swarms.
Its very nice and quiet on this side of MD Island. Yet there are lots to see and explore.
It is a 1/2 hour drive from Downtown Bar Harbor, yet it is a very nice drive.
The owners were very nice, the sites and bath houses were clean and adequate.
Nothing fancy here, just a nice campground ,in a nice quiet setting.
I'll be back, as Quietside Campground suits my need just fine.

“love it here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2009

We have stayed at Quietside in one of the log camping cabins and in a tentsite another year. Both times were great, (even though it rained). Clean, convenient bathroom and nice hot showers. tent sites are built up on platforms so tent doesn't sit in water if it rains. cabin had comfortable beds and a bookshelf stocked with good beach- reads. All around good bargain, can't wait to go back!

“Owner's were unresponsive and misleading”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2008

My husband and I used this campsite on our recent vacation in Bar Harbor. On our way up there I called several times to let them know we would be late checking in - she never once returned our call to let us know all was well and that we could check in whenever and our key would be there, which we discovered upon arrival. This did cause us stress, though, not hearing back from her all day. DON'T EVER EXPECT A CALL BACK AFTER YOU'VE PAID YOUR DEPOSIT. And then based on the cleanliness of the cabin and the showers, I' m not sure what she does...

We stayed in a cabin which was warm and definitely quiet which we wanted. However, the cabin wasn't particularly clean - it didn't even look swept.

When we booked the cabin the female owner told us that it was "close" to the bathrooms. This is important because I have to go many times throughout the night. We arrived to discover "close" meant through a clearing, down a dirt path, continuing over a wood chip path, over a "bridge" which was nothing more than a couple of planks of wood over some still water, down more path, past another cabin, through another clearing and THEN you arrived at the bathrooms. This was cabin #6. Which was right next to two other cabins. Our neighbors were quiet, but we definitely saw them. So if she tries to sell you on privacy, too, don't buy it.

Then because of the water behind our cabin we had tons of mosquitoes which are a problem there anyway but definitely not fun in the middle of the night when all you want to do is go to the bathroom.

For the last night, we had asked to change cabins to be closer to the bathroom. She said it was booked. However, during our trips to the bathroom we never a saw a car out front and the next morning it was uninhabited. RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE She probably just didn't want to clean two cabins. What are we paying for???????

We will NOT stay here EVER again. They are unprofessional and, through their silence and unprofessionalism, rude.

  • Liked — It was quiet.
  • Disliked — Everything else.
