“Our favorite place”

We have stayed here before and we will definitely be going back. This B&B is clean and quiet, and situated in a beautiful area. Avoid the tourist noise and crowds of Bar Harbor (although it is no more than a 30 minute drive) and stay on the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park.

The charming 2nd floor room we were in had a queen bed, half bath, fireplace, and view of the harbor, plus a small table and chairs just perfect for scanning hiking trail maps or playing cards. There were two shower rooms on that floor, and there are rooms with full bath on the ground floor and a fantastic attic suite with kitchenette, balcony, full bath, and dining/living area. All are reasonably priced, cheaper than a chain hotel, and much nicer.

The hosts are friendly and helpful in offering tips for things to do. This time we tried some trails we'd never been on before, and thanks to their advice we enjoyed some of the most serene walks we'd ever done on MDI. For breakfast, we enjoyed coffee, conversation, and delicious homemade breads, among other goodies. At dusk, we would return for a gorgeous view of the sunset over the harbor (across the street), and in the evening we'd let the breeze from the open window cool the room just enough to enjoy the cozy comforter. It was like a second honeymoon.

We'd recommend this inn for couples, singles, or families as a way to relax and enjoy the sounds of Acadia's birds, the smells of the lupine and other wildflowers, and the picturesque views of an authentic Maine fishing village. You cannot go wrong with this pick.

Room Tip: The top floor suite books early in peak season

“Never again!”

It sounded great but it was the opposite. First we phoned with the landlady. She supposed to be very nice and promissed us a lovely room with a queen-size-bed and a great breakfast with selfmade bread. The reality was converse: small bed (only for one person), disgusting shower cabin and a prisoner´s breakfast. The water pipes in the house were so old that it was terrible loud and the walls quaked while they were used. It weren´t able to sleep in that noisy room. The landlady was unfriendly and served us old bread. After getting the money she wanted to get rid of us asap: We couldn´t have breakfast calmy, because there was no table to sit and she told us to hurry, because she had to work (we finished the breakfast at 8.30!). Never again!

“Very disappointing!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

We were looking for a one night stay in the Alcadia Park. We got the recommendation from the tourist office. We called the landlady the same day. She seemed very lovely so we were more than happy to have found such a nice place. As we arrived at the inn we were very disappointed. The room was so tiny, the bed too small, the rate not reasonable for that standard. And the lovely lady wasn't such a lovely lady anymore. We had the impression that she was just interested in getting her money. The breakfast was "not bad". There was no possibility to sit and enjoy your breakfast. Just a sofa and two chairs. In general to expensive for that standard.

“Nice location, average stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

I thought the inn was in a great location, and the inn, itself is nice. We stayed in the largest room which had a small kitchen and bath. The room was unique; however, I felt could have used some updating. The couch had holes in it, the towels were see through and troll size. The breakfast made you yurrn for Holiday Inn Express' Continental, which is quiet sad. It was nice and quiet and within walking distance of a great restaurant.

“sub standard room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2009

We had booked a room for a short stay; even at the modest price of $100 in August this room was truly sub standard. Squeaky and leaky door let in mosquitoes, room smelled quite moldy and was extremely small. Even with MDI prices being on the high side, this room is way overpriced. There was no common room in this "inn".
