“Relaxing Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I've traveled to many places. I thought the Villas would be a great location because it is smack in the middle of New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge has the capital and a few museums with shopping, but there's so much more to do in New Orleans. The Villas provided a quiet and relaxing stay. There's not much to do on the premise, except golf. BUT we experienced a little bit of nature at Tickfaw State Park- about 15 mins away. If I could golf, I would have because it's one of the top 5 golf courses in Louisiana. There was a pool with a nice waterfall, but I didn't get a chance to swim.

There were limited hours at the front desk, but there was always a number posted that I could call if I needed something. The restaurant has limited hours, but I had some lunch and the shrimp wrap was scrumptious!

I would come back this sweet niche between Baton Rouge and New Orleans just to relax.

Room Tip: The Carriage House gave us a private little balcony, but if you're traveling with others, you ca...

“good for overnight perhaps but not for weddings”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2009

Carter Plantation for weddings and receptions is a complete ripoff IMO. You are nickled and dimed to death for sub standard treatment and surroundings. The pavillion is nothing more than a glorified gymnasium. With the prices they charge you would think they would have a chandelier or piano for weddings but they don't. The so called sophistication of this place for events is non existent. I do not fault the employees however. I would imagine it has to do with the management. The only redeeming quality that I could find was the catering chef. The food is wonderful thanks to him but believe me, you pay dearly for it. No scenic "plantation" here for your wedding. There are much better places for your wedding.

My husband and I checked into the Villas at Carter Plantation for a wonderful weekend celebrating our 11 year wedding anniversary. What a beautiful location! The staff was helpful and the room was fantastic. We had a delightful time and can't wait to return!

“Night staff needs training”

We arrived after a long day's drive, so we were very tired. We noticed the guests in line ahead of us were complaining that their keys did not work. The desk clerk told them she would walk with them to their rooms and use the master key to let them in. Then it was our turn and we were told they had no reservation for us (we had booked the room a day before via Expedia). Fortunately, they had available rooms, so we were given a key and we all went to the rooms with the desk clerk and her master key.

Of course our key did not work either, so she let us in with the master key....and there was another guest already in the room, in bed!

The desk clerk arranged for a second room for us, and again the key wouldn't work. She let us in and as we settled in, we discovered someone's clothing hanging in the closet! Back to the front desk.

Now the clerk upgrades us to a nicer room and gives us a coupon for a free breakfast. Again the key would not work! She let us in with the master key and together we all checked to make sure the room belonged to no one. It didn't, so we stayed. My wife was fearful the clerk would let someone come in on us later that night, but that didn't happen. The room was very nice and clean, but the night desk clerk was clearly not trained well.

We would have left to look for another place if it hadn't been so far away from everything else and so late.

The complimentary breakfast was also poor...service was incredibly slow, and they were out of many items on the menu.

The place was beautiful, and the room was very nice. I reluctantly give this place 2 dots, even though the experience was so stressful, I want to give it 1 dot. Good luck with the staff if you stay here.

“Absolutely the Best!!”

My husband and I always rely on TripAdvisor when we are deciding where to stay. We travel extensively and I am very picky about where we stay.
Last week we were lucky enough to find the most wonderful place in the city of Springfield, southwest of Hammond, in Louisiana.
We stayed there July 27, 28 and left the 29th, 2006. We originally booked in a one bedroom on the bottom floor. We booked directly with the Plantation and spoke with Sandi who was wonderfully helpful and polite. She even went out of her way to gather places of interest for us and put them in an envelope waiting for our check in (because she was going to be off the day we arrived).
When we got to our room, before we unpacked we looked around. The room was a nice size and very clean with a king size bed, microwave, small refrigerator, approximately 27" TV, DVD player. Out the window were two rocking chairs with a view of their beautiful golf course. (To get to your patio you needed to go out the door and a few steps around to the sitting area.) My husband looked up and saw an upstairs room with a balcony. We called the front desk and spoke with Brenda (absolutely precious and willing to bend over backwards to help you and get you any information you needed!!) we asked her about the room upstairs, what size it was, and if they had any available. It ended up that room was a complete apartment! As you can see in the pictures it was AMAZING! It had a complete kitchen and dining room. In the living room there was a couch, recliner, 47" flat screen Sony TV with a Sony DVD player. A king size bed, free wireless Internet and a beautiful deck overlooking the trees and golf course. There was a large bathroom with a separate room with a large tub and a separate stall shower. The air conditioning was perfect (not a little window unit).
Brenda gave us a wonderful "down home" restaurant recommendation, Jambalaya and Co. (Fantastic!) which was very close to Carter Plantation and Coffee Call in Baton Rouge.
We will DEFINITELY go back to visit the friendly people and beautiful, clean, reasonably priced Carter Plantation Villa!
