My husband and I visited Sam's Town in Shreveport on 12/26/2011 on our way home from visiting family for Christmas. I have stayed at this hotel 4 or 5 times in the past and have always enjoyed my stay. I am sorry to say this time was very disappointing.Our stay did start out well, check in was fast and the front desk agents were friendly and efficient as was the very nice Bellman who helped us with our bags and showed us to our room. When we got to the elevator there was a very large picture of their recently upgraded beautiful king-size standard rooms which we were happy to see as that is the room type we had booked. When we got to the room we were disappointed to see that our room had not been redone and was old and rundown. It would not have bothered us as much if the poster had said they were in the process but as it did not we found the poster misleading. There was a large burnt spot on the floor with the impression of an iron, the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off, the bathroom lights flickered, the AC was set on 80 degrees and took a long time to cool down to an acceptable level and the room in general looked tired and worn.We probably should have ask for another room but after a long car ride in the rain we were tired and just did not feel like dealing with the hassle of having to change rooms for an overnight stay.
After a quick shower and change of clothes we decided to eat at their fine dining restaurant William B's Steakhouse. The restaurant on first l appearance looked very nice and we were promptly seated. After being seated we saw red wine stains on the tablecloth not on the side but in the middle of the table. We assumed that when the waiter came to greet us he would correct this but if he noticed at all it was ignored. When my husband asked if there were any specials that evening our waiter said yes but instead of telling us what they were he said we would be better off just ordering from the menu. I always enjoy input from the server but I would have preferred to have had the option of choosing for myself. The food itself was good my husband had a steak and I had shrimp which was very good quality and cooked to our specifications the only problem was the mac and cheese side which was bland and tasted like a frozen dinner.To be fair we probably should have addressed these issues with management but as I said before we were tired and did not feel like going into it.
After being back home for a few days my husband did send an e-mail to Boyd Gaming the owner of Sam's Town addressing these issues but as of today 01/27/2012 we have yet to get any response. We will not be returning to Sam's Town

We chose Sam's based on other reviews here & found much to like about the place. The price is right & the room is huge, with comfy bed, lounge chair, fridge, etc. The bathroom was well laid out & roomy. Front desk staff was welcoming & knowledgeable. The bellman who helped us with our luggage was as old as the hills, but managed to get us where we were going efficiently if not exactly swiftly.

We were not there to gamble, but merely as a stopover on our 6,000-mile cross-country trip, so we didn't take advantage of the casino. There isn't much else to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, & we were not inclined to get back in our car before we needed to, so we walked around Sam's & the casino hotel next door.

We ate breakfast in the restaurant -- nothing special, & the service could have been a bit faster, but maybe that's just the pace of things in Louisiana.

We needed to stay overnight in Shreveport and looked for the best deal. Found a great room rate at Sam's Town, apparently available mid-week. The parking was good and the front desk staff was quite helpful. We were tired so we ate at the buffet - I would suggest avoiding that if possible. Room was very spacious, clean. Obvious renovations seemed complete on our floor. (I see others were affected by this.)

I would have given it a better review if the lights/lamps in the room had worked. Most were wouldn't come on at all. Some only flickered off and on. Seriously, needs an upgrade on the wiring.
