“Wish we had had more time to enjoy it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We arrived late and didn't get to stay long in the morning so our experience is limited, and some of the less than positive things we experienced may have been because of our schedule.

The website talks about 3 different kinds of breakfasts, but we weren't really offered any of them. Instead we were left a tray of pastries in the refrigerator (with instructions on how to warm them up in the microwave), some juice, milk, and sodas, and shown where the coffee pot was and told we could just turn it on whenever we got up.

The room itself was very nice. We got the Empire Suite and basically had half the downstairs of an old house to ourselves. We had a nice canopy bed, a private bath with a shower (unless you are taller than 5 feet, in which case it is closer to a bidet - just kidding but it is pretty short. I'm 5'11" and the shower hit me across my chest). We also had a living room with a small TV and DVD player and access to hundreds of movies, and full access to the kitchen. The only bad thing about the living room is that there was no way for a couple to really sit "together" on anything. There were separate reclining chairs - but no couch. So don't count on any romance in the living room. Overall the rooms were nice and very quiet especially considering we had another couple just across the hallway. The bedroom maintained its temperature nicely, and we slept well.

The people who owned the place were very nice and check-in and check-out were quick and easy. The personal welcome on the table in the living room was a nice touch.

“Perfect B&B for historical area - great town as well!”

My husband and I spent two nights in the Printer's Cottage at the Barrow House Bed and Breakfast. Our suite (Empire) was spacious and perfect for the historical atmosphere of both the B&B and the town of St. Francisville. Our sitting room included very comfortable (modern) recliners but in a very classic style so they blended seamlessly with the period antiques. Use of the kitchen was also an unexpected plus as we did bring a couple of meals and snacks back to the B&B after our day of sightseeing. Shirley is extremely knowledgable about the area and will help you tailor a sightseeing plan to meet your specific needs and time frame. We will return. (PS - we ordered one of the specialty breakfasts each morning and shared - it was plenty along with the pastries and fruit).

“Enchanted Weekend!”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Barrow House Inn. We had a romantic weekend retreat in the Victorian Suite! It was private yet we really enjoyed meeting our neighbors across the hall. Everyone joined in our engagement celebration that weekend - it was really very special! A formal marriage proposal in the Rosedown Plantation Gardens followed by champagne on the porch of our Bed and Breakfast - it doesn't get any better than this - I promise! Thanks Shirley and Chris for making our weekend stay so very special - We will be back every year! Thank You!

“lovely”

After the madness of New Orleans we fancied some quiet Louisiana. Up popped this lovel B&B as we planned.

We stayed in the same room as the miserable Londoners whose review you can read below - the Empire Suite. Ignore 'em is my advice.

We loved the warm welcome and hospitality from Shirley and Chris, and we're glad we paid the small supplement to have the proper breakfasts (and meet the other guests at the large table).

If you want all mod-cons and a modern hotel atmosphere then this isn't for you - but if you would like an old house prettily and characterfully decorated, with a seperate sitting room and a small but lovely bathroom as part of the suite then book now. And there are rocking chairs on the porch, so you can sip wine (or a mint julep?) and enjoy the quiet.

There'a a kitchen with complementary tea/coffee etc. - and loads of info on what to do - but Shirley will have briefed you thoroughly.

A great place to stay (unless, of course, you really are phobic about Teddy Bears!)

“Very nice and relaxing”

My wife and I made last minute plans for a getaway weekend. In short, we booked the stay 2 hours before we arrived. Shirley and her son were very cordial and very informative.

If you would like to experience a slice of the Old South, you won't be dissapointed. The room was great and the food was terrific! I suggest the eggs with red beans.
