“The usual”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

You get what you pay for here. Not a ton of frills and a reasonably clean room. We had some trouble checking in and it took a very long time due to some sort of problem they are having with hotels.com. I had to make a phone call to hotels.com to straighten things out. The front desk was accommodating but basically not too thrilled to be dealing with what is apparently an ongoing problem. The breakfast was adequate.

“Check the locks!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

I had stayed in this hotel a couple of times before. It appears to be a former Holiday Inn. We prefer it b/c it's very cheap, quiet, only a couple of exits from LSU football games.

We checked in mid-afternoon and lounged in the room for a couple of hours before an LSU game. I have a habit of always turning a doorknob after walking out of something that I'm trying to lock (home, office, hotel, etc.) When I attempted this with room 271, I was able to open the door! Tried it again multiple times, just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. No way was I going to leave my clothes/computer in a room that wasn't locked, so I immediately loaded everything up into my truck and went to the front desk. Asked the clerk to have it fixed by the time we got back. She never really apologized or offered any kind of explanation, but she did quickly assign me a new room.

We got back from the game around midnight and walked past room 271. I looked in to make sure nobody was in there, then attempted to open the door, and the lock had been fixed. Our new room's remote control wasn't working, so I went to the front desk, and a different clerk gave me some batteries. They didn't work either! But it was late and we were tired, so no big deal.

Just a reminder, always make sure the door locks when you're leaving a hotel. You never know when a rogue employee might come in when you're not around. All in all, it's still a decent hotel for the price/location, and I'll likely be staying there again.

“You get what you pay for, I guess”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2009

I got this hotel on a combined deal from Travelocity.com (hotel+car).

As it was the one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest in the list, I was very guarded as to what I was walking in to.

On my stay, most of the tenants looked to be transient contract workers, mostly roofers. I got a pretty good rate, according to the evening clerk when I checked in. The rate on the door is $48.95 and I got a rate just over $31/night.

It isn't a 5 star hotel, so I would think that people would judge as it is. It has a definite purpose in the industry and I think it does it decent enough.

The two chairs in my room were pretty badly stained and unsafe to sit on, so I didn't.

For the most part the room was clean. I did find a cobweb on a lampshade. I would hope that they would clean that before the next visitor gets this room.

The grounds appeared clean to me.

This place has been quiet since my arrival, and I can attest there are definitely worse places to stay in the Baton Rouge area that are more expensive.

On a plus, there are three casinos within a quarter mile of this place.

“What a dirty, disgusting place!”

This place was a nightmare!
It started with trying to obtain a remote control for the TV. The front desk said they would send maintenance with a remote. Two and a half hours and a number of phone calls later...maintenance turned up at 8:45 pm with a remote - it didn't work! He said he'd try and get another, I told him to forget it because I was by now pretty fed up. He looked at me like something he'd scrape off the bottom of his shoe and walked off.
More importantly the room was awful, chewing gum and dust on the floor behind the dresser, years of grime on top. Unsafe plug sockets and bed frames with dangerous metal bits jutting out (on which I caught my ankles on more than one occasion).
I've complained to Super 8 Guest Services but I don't hold out much hope since they are going to have the motel management call me and from the look of the motel - they just don't care.

“Disgusting”

We stayed the night of May 5 in the Super 8 right off the interstate in Port Allen. I have never been so disgusted with a motel stay in my life, and I have stayed in many motels in my 52 years. The grounds were horrible. There were cigarette butts, beer cans, half-eaten food every where we looked. There were about 6 bags of garbage piled up on the grass in the corner that stayed there the whole time we were there. Some of it had been torn into by who knows what. While our room appeared to be recently remodeled, none of the lamps in the room worked. The room next to us where our son and his teammates stayed had non-working lights also. Two other rooms that other adults in our party stayed in had non-working lights. Our track team stayed there also and they reported dirty rooms, broken beds and nonworking lights. One of the beds in our room was broken. There were men hanging around on the balconies and sidewalks staring at those who were coming and going. We have stayed in a few Super 8's over the years and could not believe that one could be so awful. You can be sure we will pass right by Super 8's from now on. You should really go an inspect what is going on at this particular Super 8. Also one of the men who was lurking there asked one of our track participants to come to his room later for a pajama party. This young lady is only 14 years old! We stayed only the one night and next time will drive back home, 4 hours away, rather than stay in a room at Super 8. Cathy Barron
