“Very nice hotel close to downtown Baton Rouge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

We stayed here for 5 nights in July, needed to be close to downtown Baton Rouge for an event going on during that time. The hotel was very nice and clean, free breakfast, and friendly staff. Also, enjoyed indoor pool since it rained almost daily. There was a nice looking fitness center but we never had time to use it. This hotel was just across the bridge from downtown Baton Rouge (10 min drive, unless there was rush hour hour construction traffic and even then it never took more than 30 min to get to the River Center downtown). I wish this hotel had a restaurant as the eating places are few and far between in this area unless you want fast food. The visitor's center was close by and that was nice to stop in there. This hotel was definitely the highlight of our trip and we would definitely stay there again!

We wanted to spend one night in Baton Rouge, found this motel across the river, everything was OK, breakfast was good, staff were pleasant. Location was a bit far from city center.

“Nice Hotel, but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2011

This is a very nice hotel in a convenient location right off the interstate. We stayed for a quick overnight while traveling back to Texas. The hotel is nice, but don't expect to walk, or make a quick drive, to a nearby, non-fast food restaurant...there aren't any. The Shoney's is boarded up, and several of the other higher rated restaurants on TA were either closed, out of business, or no where to be found. Don't expect the usual slew of chain, near-the-interstate restaurants (Chili's, Applebees, etc). Waffle House is about as good as it gets (enough said). Now the hotel itself is nice. Seems new, the rooms are comfortable and clean (though if you have a choice, get a room NOT facing the freeway) and the free breakfast is above average. But if you're hoping for a nice, close-by spot to enjoy dinner, you're better off staying a few miles east in Baton Rouge. Oh, and the rack rates seem a little high. We 'bid' and got a room for a little more than half the listed rates. I would have been a tad upset if I paid the full rate, but then again I'm a frugal SOB.

“Loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

I love staying at Holiday Inn Express hotels and this one is no different. They are clean, neat, and affordable. The trifecta.

“In town for a first-time family reunion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

I was travelling with my husband and teenage son and in town for a a family reunion which was the first for my husband's side of the family. We also had several other family members from across the country staying at this hotel. The room attractive and adequate for our needs, spacious bathroom, comfortable beds, choice of pillow softness and a great view. The selection of carpet color and designs, the lamps and wall hangings also showed upscale taste. The closet was a little small but adequate, supplied with an iron and ironing board. The conference room was available to set up ahead of time and that was a plus. We also had the opportunity to bring more chairs in as needed. Overall, it was a good choice to accommodate the event allowing a bright and cheery setting.

On the down side, there was evidence that our room had not been dusted in a while, evident on the base of the table, behind the television, the shelves in the restroom and along the baseboards. When I brought it to the attention of housekeeping, it was taken care of. More care also needs to be taken on guest supplies -- three towels on separate occasions had brown and yellow stains. One stain so fresh that it continued to leave trace marks on the towel. There was no bath mat left after one maid's visit and in addition, the clock was difficult to reset to the correct time. I also thought that it would have been nice to have at least two guest chairs and suitcase valise.
