“Very clean and quiet hotel, just off I-10”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

Stopped in at midnight, and was impressed with the hotel. The lobby had a strange smell, but once up on the 2nd floor the smell was gone. The rooms were typical of all the Comfort Suites I have stayed at.....very clean and quiet.

Checked out around 6:30am so didn't have the breakfast, but it was up and running.

Great location just outside of Baton Rouge, with easy interstate access.

“clean and friendly in awkward location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2009

The hotel is very clean. The staff were very friendly including a very attentive breakfast waitress.. The problem with this hotel is that if you do not have transport you are stuck. There are no proper restaurants with in walking distance and no proper paths to walk along safely. I suppose this is the way with a car orientated society.
The suite was a bit of a suprise. Large mainroom which strangely contained a Juccussi in one corner. A large bedroom and a seperate bathroom. Both rooms had TV, there were coffee making facilities in the room and a fridge and Micro wave.
For a short stay it is ideal and there is a burger king/KFC and small petrol station with in easy walk if you want a small snack or to raise your collesterol level.
Taxi in to Baton Rouge is about $20.
I would stay there again if in the area but try to avoid a weekend when very little life seems to occur, especially on a Sunday.

“Marginally Good Enough for An Easy Going Business Traveler”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2009

I stayed at this hotel for three nights while on a business trip in June of 2009. Overall the stay was acceptable but it was marked by several problems. More on these below.

General Impressions:
The hotel was relatively clean and quite. The staff was polite and helpful. My room (although not the room I reserved - more on that below) was clean and well appointed. The in-room high speed internet access was functional and problem free. The hotel provides a free continental breakfast (more on that below). The property also provides a business center, an outdoor pool, and a gym. I did not use these so I cannot comment on them.

Problems Noted:
My reserved room was not clean. It smelled stongly of mildew (actually I have been in flooded houses that smelled better). I went back to the desk and asked for another room, dreading what I might find. The staff seemed surprised at my complaint but switched me to another room immediately. The second room was clean and had no foul odor but it was not the same class of room as I had reserved. The closet doors in the second room were broken and would not fully open or close. While this made it difficult to hang and access clothes, it was not overly disturbing. I did mentiion it to the desk staff when I returned the key for the original room. I was told that Maintenance would repair the doors in the morning. The doors were never repaired. This explains my low rating for the rooms and my mediocre rating for cleanliness.

This brings me to the "Breakfast Nazi". As mentiioned above, the hotel provides a continental breakfast. This comes with the extra benefit of a lady to serve you and YOU WILL BE SERVED. She rules the breakfast area with an iron fist. Guests are not allowed to serve themselves or even decide what they will eat. Woe be to the hapless traveller who attempts to prepare his own waffle or operate the microwave without assistance. Upon seeing you she begins cheerfully suggesting what you should be choosing for yourself and pushes this or that upon you relentlessly. If you decide you want something other than her recommendation, you will be treated to barely aduible muttering and comments about your weight or eating habits. One of our company wished to watch the news (on the TV in the breakfast area) while eating his breakfast. She initially refused to turn it on arguing that it would distract people from eating their breakfast and attract people to the dining room to watch television rather than eat. After several minutes of arguing, she relented and turned on the TV but then sat in the corner glowering at us until we finished and left. Her demeanor was extremely off-putting and became a recurring topic of conversation among our collegues who also stayed at this hotel. Her behavior overcame the relatively polite and efficient performance of the desk staff and resulted my low rating for service.

I have been in many hotel breakfast areas that were not clean or properly stocked and have complained about this in the past. This hotel has a very clean and well stocked breakfast area but like WWII Germany where the trains ran on time (or else), the trade-offs are a bit extreme for the average person.

Conclusion:
The hotel was clean and quiet. It serves the needs of the average business traveller and would be a convenient overnight stay for a cross country traveller. I would stay here again if I had to, but will probably look for other accomodations when I am in town again next year. If I do stay again, I will skip the free breakfast...

“Not All That Comfy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2007

This Comfort Suites has deteriorated in the past several years. I had stayed there 3 years ago and it was fresh and clean. Now the rooms are worn, the bathrooms are rusty and moldy, wallpaper stained and peeling. The maid service was very lacking. The shower/bath was not cleaned out, and I do not think the room was vacuumed while we stayed there. The day we were checking out (a Sunday afternoon), the maid service knocked on the room door at 9:00am to ask if she could strip our beds and take the sheets! We told her we were checking out by 11:00. She then returned at 11:00, knocked once, then opened the door before I had a chance to open it!!! Also, although I have no proof of this, two items were missing from my makeup bag which was sitting on the bathroom counter. The folks at the front desk were helpful and nice. The best thing at Comfort Suites is Mary that works the breakfast bar. She is efficient, helpful, friendly and keeps the area clean and tidy! Thanks, Mary. I realize that the selection of hotels in the Port Allen area is very slim and by default I would probably have to stay in this hotel again (ick!). Hope this review helps you to not raise your expectations of visiting this Comfort Suites.

  • Liked — Mary in the breakfast area
  • Disliked — the dingy, musty, needed-to-be-updated rooms
