“LOVE this B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2009

I have visited this B&B three times in the past two years. Me and my husband spent our 10th and 11th year anniversary at The Wheelwright Inn. I loved it so much that I planned a Thanksgiving womens only weekend, and we had a total blast. The house is beautiful, has gorgeous antiques is always in pristine condition and it always smells wonderful. You have got to feel the sheets...we've tried a whole bunch of types and we've never found any sheets like the ones there. They are so soft and silky, it is truly amazing. The mattresses are also extremely comfortable, and despite the train, we slept wonderful. (you hear the train all over town, not just here) We've enjoyed all of our meals that were prepared and served there. Mrs. Robin is such a gracious host and made each of our stays special and memorable. She goes above and beyond what is necessary. By the time we left, we felt like we had known her for years and felt as confortable in her home and we do in ours. I recommend everyone visit The Wheelwright Inn!! We hope to visit again real soon!

“Wouldn't go back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2008

We stayed here a couple of years ago. The owner/innkeeper, Robin, is otherwise pleasant but wants your credit card information immediately, which in my opinion is a bit rude and certainly diminishes the B&B experience. You soon discover why, though. The house is almost sitting on the railroad tracks and the train sounds just like it is coming through your room (and ours was really strange -very high bed on a bare floor with a sink in the room). An uninterrupted night's sleep is impossible unless you are profoundly deaf - and the noise is such that ear plugs would be totally useless. The breakfast is prepackaged frozen and heated up but the fruit cup was nice. On the plus side the place is quaint and very clean and well kept.

I am sorry to hear that my guests thought asking for a credit card to secure overnight lodging was rude. I do not know of any B&B or Motel/Hotel that does not require this information as a standard business proceedure.
I also appologize for the train, however, it is a part of Natchitoches that everyone learns to appreciate. The railroad has been an important part of Natchitoches for over 100 years and actually is a comforting and familiar sound to many of our guests, as well as the Natchitoches locals.
The uniqueness of a Historic home is the originality and quality during their time. The 100 year old, original wood floors are absolutely stunning in this home and that is why only area rugs are throughout. Also unique would be the style of the antique furnishings, such as the sleigh beds and teasters which were higher off the floors than todays conventional beds. Wash tables were quite commonly found in the bedroom as there was no indoor bathroom during these times.
Pre-packaged sweet rolls and danish are served as a continental breakfast for our guests requiring service prior to 7am. Other guests receive a hot, freshly prepared breakfast of choice at the main seating, 8:30am.
The B&B experience is not to be confused with a Motel stay. As owners of these beautiful landmarks of the past, we try to preserve that period...to transport our guests back in time. We open 'our homes' to you to share the luxury and quaintness from so long ago. It is our goal to provide the comfort, romance and relaxation that is present in the B&B experience. I appologize if I have fallen short of this goal.
