“Excellent for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We were pleasantly surprised. The price was very reasonable and the rooms were nice and clean. We didn't get to the continental breakfast, so I can't comment on it.
It was a simple, clean hotel room, and that is what we were looking for.
It was easy to find. We didn't have reservations, it was late, and the cost was half what we spent the next night further down the road.
The only thing I would say is that it is a room open to the outside inside of inside on a hallway, but we were able to park close and didn't notice anybody hanging around the parking lot.

“Nothing awful, nothing great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We chose this place for an overnight on a long road trip. Monroe, LA was the right location along the highway and it didn't make much sense to look for a place with a lot of amenities since we'd be arriving at midnight and leaving quite early the next day.

This hotel had queen beds in its double rooms, and we look for rooms with queens since we sleep better on them than full-size beds. The beds were very comfortable. The room was a comfortable temperature and was quiet and clean.

The shower had plenty of hot water, but no water pressure. The bathroom door was hard to shut, and that turned out to be a good thing because once we shut it the handle locked and couldn't be opened from the inside or out until people on both sides of the room had wriggled it A LOT!

There was a fridge and a mic, but the fridge's door was propped open and it was not turned on. Not sure if it worked, but it certainly wouldn't have gotten cold in time to keep our food cold. We decided to leave our snacks in our cooler.

We didn't watch TV or use the mic. The pool was covered for the season. The Continental breakfast was one of the sparsest we've experienced and it was in one of the smallest spaces imaginable.

We awoke to an icky smell and wondered if the plumbing had backed up. Stepping outside we found it MUCH stronger. Smelled like a paper plant. We didn't smell it when we arrived and can't really say what it was or why it was SO BAD in the morning. Maybe temporary sewage repair or maybe it's the regular smell in Monroe. It was not just the hotel, however.

Bottom line: We slept well on comfortable beds in a quiet room that was very convenient to I-20. Paid $55. It met our needs, but offered absolutely nothing else.

Room Tip: If you want a fridge, you might make sure to ask for one that works and is turned on.

“Adequate accommodations”

Using the TripAdvisor reviews we stayed at the Super 8 hotel in Monroe on our way to Texas. It was an adequate stay. Nothing fancy but a good night sleep for the money and convenient to I-20.

The breakfast was the usual line-up of cereals, breads, tea and coffee. Lobby had a guest computer.

“Only as a last resort”

I don't have to stay at $50.00 a night motels any longer, but this was about the only one with an opening this weekend and it had been getting good reviews. It was easy to access. I had been reassured that it was in a safe location and since we were two ladies traveling alone that they would put us in a front room. But when we got there we were in the back of the motel. There was someone sitting by the 2nd floor stairs and if I had had a room upstairs or on that end i would of drove back around the front and had it checked out before I got out of my car. The room was fairly clean just need a little TLC and some good scrubbing on the bathroom door etc. The sheets were very threadbare, but the bed slept good. I was uncomfortable with the surrounding in the back and did push the fridge in front of the door and made sure I had my car alarm in easy grasp. Had wished I had brought my pistol. That night the water was a dirty yellow and we forgo the baths. Luckly the next morning the water was clear, so not sure if that was a motel problem or a city water problem. But Monroe's water is soft so a little soap and shampoo will do you. Can't comment on the breakfast as we did not make it.
