RECOUNT OF MY NIGHT AT "THE PROJECTS"!
I was forced to evacuate my home due to Hurricane Ike and looked for a hotel somewhere in the Metairie/Kenner area. We had a friend traveling with us who had small pets who needed a hotel which would accept them. This hotel was one of few which accepted pets in that area. We paid 85/nt plus tax. Upon arriving very late at night, we were shocked by the "gentlemen's club" which is directly next door to the hotel, and the patrons of that establishment which were gathered in the parking lot. Upon arrival at hotel lobby, if you could term it that, we were told by the lady working to "have a seat" whilst she slowly checked in the family ahead of us. I guess she didn't realize that their "lobby" only had a couple of folding chairs and they were being occupied by some of the members of the family which was ahead of us being checked in. We continued to stand for about 20 mins to wait for our turn to be processed.
Next, on to the rooms. Upon entering the room, we noticed a STRONG musty odor. I am not sure if they have had water damage from prior hurricanes which was not repaired or if the hotel is just so old that things are beginning to smell. In addition, I feared when we turned out the lights, something was going to crawl out and eat us. The bathroom was a total disgrace, there was a rotten hole in the wall near the toilet, the tiles in the bathroom were dirty as well as the vanity area. My daughter asked if we could go to another hotel because it was dirty and smelled really bad. That was pretty sad and humiliating for me that my five year old noticed the disgusting conditions we were put in and wanted to leave, while I had no way at that time of changing our circumstances. The friends who were with us had another room and said that it was basically in the same condition as ours.
Another thing to note was that one of our friends said he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the room next to ours the night that we arrived, and our other friend said she noticed it again the next morning. Wow, what a place! There were people hanging out in the parking lot and outside their rooms. The hotel reminded me of a place where transient type people might rent rooms by the month to live. This was definitely not a place that I felt comfortable or safe staying in. Needless to say we got up early the next morning and found a hotel in the Kenner area and checked out immediately from the LaQuinta. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!!!
