“Do NOT, under any circumstance, stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2010

This was absolutely the WORST hotel experience of my life!
It all started when I walked into the place. I stood at the counter for what seemed like 10 minutes before I was actually helped. During that time, I was spotted by at least 3 people behind the counter, none of which even bothered to acknowledge me or at least say something like “we’ll be with you in just a moment”. NOTHING! They would just look and walk away.
When someone finally decided to grace us with her presence, she made sure that we knew we were bothering her. SO unbelievably rude! I booked three rooms online. When she gave me the first room key, I gave it to my sister. She went to the room and promptly came back. When they opened the door to the room, they were bombarded with a wave of cigarette smell. The room smelled SO bad! I asked the lady if there were any more rooms and, without looking at the computer, she said no. We explained about the horrible smell and all she said was “I can’t get another room for you”. She didn’t even apologize or ATTEMPT to remedy the situation.
When I finally got to my room, there was trash on the floor. Obviously it wasn’t cleaned, but there was clearly no point to asking for another room!
We went out and did our family outing. When we came back to sleep, we couldn’t. The walls are SO thin. You can hear absolutely everything that is happening in the rooms next to you. People laughing and yelling at 2AM did not help any of us in our room.
I could go on about the next morning’s breakfast fiasco, but I hope you are getting the point by now. Needless to say, it is well worth the extra $20 a night at the other La Quinta in Lake Charles. This one is on the wrong side of town and everyone that works there (with the exception of the Front Desk clerk the next morning) has a BAD attitude and makes you feel like dog poo for bothering them.
Honestly, I have never written a review before. However, this place had my family so steamed that I think someone should warn all the other good people out there. Do not stay here under any circumstance!

“Cheap and sort-of what you'd expect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2010

If you don't look closely, this place looks pretty good. So don't look closely.

The first room they gave me absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. As this is an all non-smoking hotel, I was quite surprised. The kind front desk clerk told me that some kind of alarm had notified them that someone had smoked in their room but they didn't know which one. (Huh?) Why didn't housekeeping tell the management that someone had OBVIOUSLY smoked in there and it needed to be fumigated, instead of taking the chance that a customer wouldn't find it offensive?

Staff was very nice and friendly and upgraded me to a larger room. Strangely, the nice flat screen was in the small side room/foyer with a love seat, while the older tube TV was in the bedroom where you'd usually watch it. Never turned on the flat screen.

Room #2 was clean enough but tub floor was dirty (dark footprints), paint was very haphazard, things like water sprinklers in the ceiling were rusty. Looks like they hired someone not very skilled or caring to do a quick remodel and they didn't quite get every detail.

Bed was comfortable with nice sheets/pillows. And it all looked pretty OK.

AC/heating unit however had a random whine when the heat kicked on and that kept me awake. Definitely needs fixing. Not conducive to good rest.

The rooms do not directly face the highway, but they all can "see" it, which means they also hear it. Big trucks pass by all night long and unless you turn on the air, you'll hear them. (But then if you turn on the heat...) Bring earplugs to be safe.

Biggest disappointment was the "breakfast". Some low-end sweet rolls, cold, hard biscuits in a bowl, white bread, two types of cereal (one of them was nearly empty), lukewarm milk in a pitcher, a waffle-maker, and coffee. That's it. No juice, not even any water. No eggs. No bacon. No oatmeal. And the cheapest/flimsiest little plastic forks and spoons you've ever seen (like for little children.) Not even any knives. Come on! How cheap can you get?

There was a juice machine in a side utility room, but when I inquired, they said it was empty. I asked the front desk about the whole situation. She said they'd been "slammed" that weekend (hard to imagine) and a "shipment" hadn't arrived.

Why not just drive over to the grocery store and pick up some stuff?

They were very nice and apologetic, but that didn't fill my stomach.

So my recommendation: if you need a really cheap room that's sufficient, stay here. Forget about breakfast unless you like what I described. And bring earplugs.

“Stay at the other La Quinta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

I got confused and ended up making a reservation at this La Quinta Inn (on MLK ). It's an old hotel and they are currently doing some renovation. The front desk lady and the cleaning ladies were very nice and professional. We arrived at 4 pm (check in is at 3 pm) and our room wasn't ready yet. It was almost done, but after a road trip, you expect the room to be ready, so you can freshen up and rest. The bed and bathroom are just old, the room was fairly clean, the TV was new and there were a lot of channels. They were replacing the carpet in the rooms to our right, but it didn't bother since we didn't stay there for long in the afternoon. The hotel is close to the casinos (it's an easy drive) and to many restaurants. I'd recommend people stay at the pther one, the new one at 1201 W Prien Lake Rd.

“Don't Stay Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2007

The staff here went beyond the call of duty in their professionalism and friendliness, but it was not enough to make up for the condition of the hotel. While the king room we had was large, the linens were dated and smelled like mildew. The paint on the walls had large areas where it had peeled. The bathroom leaked water from the bottom of the walls onto the floor, and the metal floor trim was rusty and bent. Also, it was not the safest neighborhood. When we went to a drugstore a 1/2 block away, I noticed the Zantac was locked up. I asked the clerk why, and he said they had to lock up everything, as there was alot of theft and many other crimes in that neighborhood. I would not stay here again, and would not recommend.
