When we retired in Oct of '09, the 1st thing we did was plan a trip to LA to gamble, golf and visit Natchitoches (the sight of the filming of Steel Magnolias). We started our trip with a one night stay at the Grand Hotel, and were so impressed that we extended that one night into 5 nights. So, of course, when we planned our next trip (a 6 week tour of Civil War battlefields); we planned finishing up with a few nights at our favorite hotel. I was amazed that after checking in we found NO bathroom tissue in the room, and many small bugs in the bathroom (both living and dead). Our request for TP was met with a 2 hour wait, and no one would do anything about the bugs. We then found that our safe had a low battery, and they would not guarantee we could retrieve our jewelry and cash should we need it without waiting for a locksmith to arrive for up to TWO DAYS.
There were no other rooms available, so we made do (uncomfortably) with what we had as we were told our credit card would be charged if we left for another hotel. I went to gamble alone (as we did not want to leave a large amount of cash unattended) and found that they were having problems in the casino as well. Many of the slots that I prefer to play would not accept the cash tickets generated by other machines at "cash out". The redemption machines also did not work, and there were limited staff at the cashier's booths and very long lines.
The trip was not a total loss for us as we chose to load up the car and go into Lake Charles to gamble, and came back 2 grand happier than when we left. Will we gamble again at Coushatta? Certainly. Will we recommend them again to friends - definately NOT. I know that our decision not to spend a grand with them will not affect them. However, good, common business sense would suggest that someone from the hotel's management staff would have at least shown a bit of concern regarding the bug situation. Even upon checkout, when I suggested they have housekeeping sweep the floors, the clerk just lookat at me and rolled her eyes. We are EXTREMLEY disappointed with this last stay there.
