Big rooms, wonderful people who staff the hotel who gave excellent service. We booked this room in order to stay in NOLA an extra night after returning from a cruise. Big football games were afoot so finding that room was a trick and this was the only one we could find. We had stayed at the JW Marriott on Canal for two days prior to leaving for the cruise and really had wanted to stay in the middle of the action BUT would DEFINITELY book this hotel for our return visit to NOLA. Justin (the transfer bus driver) is worth it alone.
Taxi fare is $33 from airport to downtown. The bus (the Veteran’s line bus stop is diagonally across from the hotel) is about $1.50; you take this to the cemeteries and pick up the canal street trolley into downtown. Trolley fare is $1.25 for the trip or $3 for an all day pass. The trolley is the party, maybe not as much during the day but once the sun begins to go down, NOLA springs to life and we met amazing locals on the trolley who were incredibly forthcoming with help, tips, opinions, and their own stories. This experience gave depth and richness to our trip and would not have happened cocooned inside a taxi. The time factor is just slightly more on the bus, but in order to save $60 round trip and have the advantage of taking any trolley anywhere to see NOLA up close makes this the thing to do. Spend that $60 at Mignon Faget for a keepsake!
