We traveled from PA to TX to visit relatives between the holidays and stayed in 5 different hotels. This was definitely the worst. First, the hotel faces a noisy highway and there is a go-cart track behind the hotel, which we didn't know about until we were given a room on that side, carried our luggage into the room, and then heard the engines rev up and the go-carts take off. I called the desk to ask how long this would go on - she said 11pm. She gladly offered to move us. So she moved us to the side. (Turns out we followed another family who went through the same ritual ten minutes earlier.) Unfortunately, we were given a room with an adjoining room through a door and it was not insulated for sound. The people next door were literally screaming for a couple hours. The room was not very clean - a very sticky substance was spilled on the rug in front of one of the night stands and was never clean. I stepped in it and had to wash my sticky shoe in the shower. The batteries fell out of the remote when it was picked up because there was no cover on the back. No liners in the trash cans (unsanitary) "they don't use them". And styrofoam cups rather than plastic for drinking water. An empty tissue dispenser. Frustrating internet service. The breakfast was minimal and eaten in a dimly lit room.
To top things off, my wife had welts on her arm from bedbugs two days later. I can't claim 100% that they came from this hotel because I have no proof, but I would not hesitate to bet that this is the case based on the timing and the overall quality of this hotel vs. all the others we stayed at. For me, this was the worst night's sleep I had in a hotel in 30 years and wanted to leave at 2am. Meanwhile, my wife slept better but was likely being eaten alive. The desk manager never asked me how the experience was when I checked out. I guess he knew the answer already.
