“If you don't like smoke don't stay here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

The people who worked here were very nice and the bed and pillows were comfortable. Our tv didn't work and they offered to put us in another room but we were right on an end away from the freeway so we decided we would stay and not watch tv.

I could hear people in a room around us but the worst part was that I woke up around 2 am and went to the rest room and I was inhaling smoke coming through the vent from another room. My throat was a bit swollen from this but who wants to change rooms at 2am...

After that I don't recommend this hotel.

“Gotta be a better place for LSU Games!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We had the rooms transferred to us as part of an Auburn/LSU game package that our friend could not attend. If we had it to do over again - we would NOT pick this motel.

The few pluses: the staff were helpful and friendly. The TV has a white noise thingy that somewhat drowns out the drunk people. There is a shuttle which costs $20/pp one way to get you to/from the game alive. The Rib place across the street is very good for lunch! The beds are OK, halfway between good and bad, somewhat sleepable. The water pressure is good in the shower, but make it fast the hot doesn't last long. The free Wifi works!!! :-)

The minuses: the walls are paper-thin, you can hear *everything* going on in the adjoining rooms, and outside - both sides. During game weekends, the pool is full of LOUD drunk people, and unless you drink, you are getting NO sleep! No good place for breakfast within walking distance. Not possible to walk to LSU Stadium unless you are packin'. It is an OLD motel, maybe built during the 1950-60s and then remodelled, many times. The old metal stairs are still rusty (no elevator!), the old bathtubs still have the old faucets, the bright-colored shower curtains are almost painful. Beware of people driving up to the entrance on game day with handmade "shuttle" signs in their car windows, who want to drive you to ??? Yikes.

Room Tip: Get away from the pool and away from the Interstate.

“Unless You Are a Frat Boy, Don't”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Unless you have very low standards or are a Frat boy on a budget and drunk, don't stay here. This room was dirty. The coffee maker and the ice bucket had an inch of dust on them. Everything is smelly, dirty and run down. The breakfast is disgusting. Hard bagels in a package, coffee not replenished, hard boiled eggs can't be peeled. Just unappealing all the way around. This hotel chain can be a good value. In Alabama we did not find the same conditions with this chain. This property is terrible.

“Stayed for LSU Game”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

Wife and I stayed for two nights to attend an LSU football game and to see some friends. We didn't experience any real disappointments with this hotel for what we expected. It is walking distance from an Acme Oyster House, Coyote Blues, and an Outback Steakhouse. However, you have to walk under the interstate to get to them. I'd recommend driving to them. We were able to walk to the game from this hotel, it was roughly 3 miles walk to the stadium, but we were up for the trek.

It appears to be a bit of an older property in the rooms, but the entrance, reception, and breakfast areas seemed up to date. The only real downside to our stay was that there wasn't really any place to walk our dogs. We were able to find a small grass lot at the back of the hotel, but if we'd have stayed any longer we would have needed to find somewhere else to walk them.

Overall it was a reasonable hotel, friendly staff, and good breakfast. A little disappointed at the price for what was available. But with it being close (for us) to the campus, on a football game weekend, we were pleased overall.

“Disappointed - Would Not Recommend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

I was recently driving from Texas to Florida for a relocation and stopped in Baton Rouge overnight on my drive. I will admit that I have not stayed at a LaQuinta in some time, but from what I had read online, I thought that they had recently updated all of their properties. Their advertising campaign made me think that I would be pleased with a stay at LaQuinta.

While this property is not TERRIBLE, I would not stay there again. The check-in process was great, and the staff very friendly.

The room on the other hand...first of all, the room appeared to be ok upon walking in, but it was the bathroom and other amenities that told the real story. Not to mention there was a very strange odor in the room. I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

The bathroom was very disappointing. The toilet bowl had very bad dark stains, and did not appear to be clean, even though I have no doubt it had been cleaned. The bath tub was in bad shape, and the vanity mirror was very old and had chipping and a rust-like substance around the sides.

The other item which really bothered me was the television remote control. The buttons barely functioned, and it was not a battery issue. When I pressed the channel up or down buttons the channels moved up, regardless of which button I pushed. Even more frustrating was the fact that the volume buttons controlled the channels as well. Normally I would have complained and asked for a new remote or to be moved to another room, however I had been driving all day, had just showered and settled in to bed, so I was in no mood to walk back to the office or change rooms.

I did not eat the breakfast so cannot comment on that aspect.

I feel that the value for the price paid was ridiculous, and this stay has definitely left a negative impression of LaQuinta for me.
