We were moving our son to LSU, so we booked three nights at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge, LA. We've stayed in Embassy Suites before, so we kind of knew what to expect. One reason for choosing this hotel was for the hot breakfast in the morning.
So the pros:
-Best hot breakfast in town. Omelets and eggs made to order, pancakes hot off the grill during the week, but out of a pan on the weekends. Fruit, pastries, cereal, juice, coffee, milk. The guys making the omelets have been doing this for more than ten years at this location. Plus the lady cleaning up the tables was right there getting tables cleaned. Friendly and they make a great omelet.
-Plus the staff checking you in are also very friendly and helpful.
-Housekeepers do a great job.
-Shampoo and conditioner were nice.
-Parking was pretty good.
Cons:
-I was expecting a better bed. Kind of hard, so I didn't sleep as good as I had hoped.
-Water pressure in the shower was not so good. Kind of dribbled out of the shower head and it took a long time to get hot at night.
-Managers Reception was not what I remembered from other ES stays. This one had a spread of vegetables - dried up carrots (really, they needed a dip in water to improve their looks), jarred olives, jarred pickles - with a little tub of dip on a small table. Nothing hot, nothing like chips and dips. You showed your room key for your beverage. Fairly good selection, but I'm not a drinker, so I was looking for a little snack before we headed to dinner.
-The hotel is right next to I-10, so you hear a lot of highway noise at night. We faced the side, so we got some noise, but not as much as if we were facing the interstate.
-On our last night there, a large group of families checked with lots of pre-teens for some sort of competion. The kids were running through the corridors, yelling and screaming, playing with the elevators, riding up a floor and getting off to run the corridor, then riding down two floors and repeating. I called the front desk around 10:30PM asking if they could please do something about all the noise in the atrium. Why can't parents take care of their kids?
-They must allow pets because some guest brought their small dog on a leash to the breakfast area. This was not a service animal because it was pretty undisciplined on the leash in the breakfast area. I would think the breakfast area was not a place for a pet. But it was teeming with small kids helping themselves to the buffet items on the breakfast, so lots of manners were lacking in this group.
But the breakfast was really the high point of our stay.
It can be hard getting on Constitution, but you need to follow the signs. Get off on College and go straight through the intersection to get to Constitution. If you want to get back to College and turn south, don't follow Constitution all the way to college. Right near the Crowne Plaza there was a road that took you to College Drive South. You won't see the sign going West, but you will see it going East on Constitution.
Room Tip: Back side probaby get less highway noise.
