“Friendly Staff-but Facilities Need Improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I just conducted a conference at this hotel and spent one night. Most of the staff are friendly and puts forth an effort to be helpful. There seems to be some serious management issues here. The front desk could not locate my fax and I had to call my secretary to re-fax the information. However, the next day one of the employees showed up with my original fax. One a couple of occasions I asked the front desk for some assistance with the conference room (turning on the air conditioner and getting me a flip chart). The indicated they would contact the correct department, but then failed to follow through.

The rooms are typical Marriott, but the bedding really needs to be replaced. The mattress in my sleeping room was severely worn. Although I stayed on the club level, the food items were very limited both in the evening and morning. Interestingly, one of the staff told me that occupancy at the hotel was only about 50%. Perhaps if the owners would put some money into the property and management would do a little better job training staff, people would be staying at the hotel more frequently.

My conference room was not set to my written specifications adn it was very difficult to get any level of cooperation. I have asked my staff to put this hotel on my "Do Not Use" list for the future. The location is good and there appears to be plenty of parking. The elevators are some of the slowest I have ever encountered.

“Old, Tired, Highway Noise”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This 20 story landmark was probably great 30 years ago; but, it's hard to imagine that anything has been renovated or updated since.
The biggest negative of this property to me was the highway noise. Despite having a room on the 18th floor, I could clearly hear the roar of traffic starting at 6 a.m. They need to install sound barrier windows.
The property looks and feels old and tired. The staff was great...super friendly. Unfortunately, that's all they have going for them. The interior decor is dated and worn out.
Not sure what the PC way of saying this is...but the average patron seemed to be in their 70s and 80s.
The people working here are all super friendly and professional.
If you stay on a platinum level (17-20??), make sure you have your key ready for the elevator as the door shuts very quickly and you may miss your opportunity to go to the floor you want.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else. The noise from the highway is terrible

“Outdated rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Ok for the price we paid, but the rooms were outdated (no flat screen TV) and I was on the conceirge level, Room 2002, where it was a bit noisey. I gues it was noisey because of all the people accessing the lounge? This Marriott looks like it needs a little TLC, we had our meeting there as well and even the meeting room seemed a little dated. On a positive note, the concierge lounge was certainly well stocked for breakfast. The checkin process was good, friendly staff. And on check out, I mentioned that the hallrway was a littl noisey and the Front Desk manager gave me an additional 5000 marriott rewards points. Not all bad.

Room Tip: Stay away from the concierge floor (floor 20)

“Typical Marriott needs renovation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011 via mobile

Service was good, typical of Marriott, but this property is tired. Early American style furniture, old TVs, and flaky Internet connections make for a just passable hotel experience.

“Nice service, ageing structure, scary elevators”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

I like Marriott hotels, including this one, but it had some shortcomings. The room was very nice, large, and comfortable. The concierge level service was good. The workout facility was excellent, with multiple workout devices all in good working order and a set of free weights. The building looked quite aged, maybe the polite term is "classic," and the elevators were an adventure (one went past the indicated 17th floor all the way to the top, made a creaking sound and then rapidly rumbled from the 21st floor to the 1st floor - near death experience?!; another one made an interesting final-sounding clank every time the door shut and a rough rumbling sound as it struggled between floors). The hotel is next to Hwy 10 and my room facing the freeway was noticeably noisy. I will try the Renaissance next time.
