After reading one of the other reviews of this site, I was apprehensive of staying at this hotel. I actually made reservations elsewhere, then checked out the hotel after I arrived in Whitesburg. When first entering the lobby, I was impressed with a small, but very up to date and clean lobby. The room that we stayed in was also newly refurnished with new carpet, bedding, TV, etc. My understanding is that they are working their way through all the rooms updating them. Anyway, I was impressed enough to cancel my other hotel. My wife and I are very picky about where we will stay, with Cleanliness being top on our priority list. We were very happy with this hotel.
While at the hotel, the first evening, a new worker was smoking in the lobby. Since we are non-smokers, we asked the owner if it was a smoking lobbey. He informed us that it was not, and that he would rectify the problem. That evening when we returned to the hotel, there were signs posted throughout the hotel lobby stating that this was a non-smoking lobby. Also, for the rest of our stay, there was no smoking in the lobby. The next morning, we happened to run into the owner again, and he called us out by name, asking if our problem had been resolved. This is the kind of personal attention that I am accustomed to receiving at 4 or 5 star hotels, but not typical at 2 star hotels.
The cleanliness and personal attention will gaurantee this hotel another visit if/when we return to Whitesburg.
