We absolutely loved this hotel! I was 7mo. pregnant and all cramped up from many miles of riding/driving, and we had arrived around 9-10 pm. My husband has family only about 20 miles away, which was our destination, but we wanted to stay the night somewhere so that we would be refreshed in the morning. We had no reservation, so my husband had me and our 2 year old daughter wait in the car while he went in to inquire about a room. They gave us the best room!! I think it was the honeymoon suite! Jauquzzi tub, very spacious room with a king bed, big screen tv and microwave, comfy couch and coffee table, and my favorite : windows that really open!! It was so wonderful to hear the night sounds up there in the mountains. I think they opened to the preserve behind the hotel. The bed was sooo comfortable, and at 7 mo. pregnant, I usually had a hard time getting comfortable anywhere. Carpets were clean, tub and bathroom were immaculate (we usually want to re-clean these items in most hotels for the sake of our children), bed linens smelled fresh, everything was much better than we expected. We are going to go back soon, and will definitely reserve with this Super 8.

After reading one of the other reviews of this site, I was apprehensive of staying at this hotel. I actually made reservations elsewhere, then checked out the hotel after I arrived in Whitesburg. When first entering the lobby, I was impressed with a small, but very up to date and clean lobby. The room that we stayed in was also newly refurnished with new carpet, bedding, TV, etc. My understanding is that they are working their way through all the rooms updating them. Anyway, I was impressed enough to cancel my other hotel. My wife and I are very picky about where we will stay, with Cleanliness being top on our priority list. We were very happy with this hotel.

While at the hotel, the first evening, a new worker was smoking in the lobby. Since we are non-smokers, we asked the owner if it was a smoking lobbey. He informed us that it was not, and that he would rectify the problem. That evening when we returned to the hotel, there were signs posted throughout the hotel lobby stating that this was a non-smoking lobby. Also, for the rest of our stay, there was no smoking in the lobby. The next morning, we happened to run into the owner again, and he called us out by name, asking if our problem had been resolved. This is the kind of personal attention that I am accustomed to receiving at 4 or 5 star hotels, but not typical at 2 star hotels.

The cleanliness and personal attention will gaurantee this hotel another visit if/when we return to Whitesburg.

We originally had two rooms reserved and cancelled one the day before arrival. Upon arrival they still had the second room reserved. You must fill out a registration card every time you check into this hotel even though they have your information from the reservation. The room was dirty, carpets on the floor were filthy. There were several roaches in the hallway. The ice machine hardly worked at all. No garbage cans outside or in the hallways. Beer bottles outside the side entrance door at the time of our arrival and were still there when we checked out. Our non smoking room smelled of smoke and there was lots of cigarette smoke in the hallways. Loud noise outside of our room. The heating unit was very loud. We had a crib for our 18 month old and it was ready to fall apart. Horrible stay and I would not stay here again.

A delightful place, friendly people, and a terrific location next to the creek.
