I've stayed at this Days Inn many times the last few years and I'll agree - the bathrooms are in great need of remodeling, the carpet in the rooms in great need of replacement., and the beds could use new bedding and mattresses/box springs! BUT - I've never ever seen a bug of any kind (no bed bugs either), the refrig/microwaves are clean, the bedsheets are clean (I don't ever use the bedspread, heard too many stories about those), and the staff ladies are SO FRIENDLY and will jump through hoops to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
The last time I stayed, we were in a room next to some KIDS, looked like 16-17 yr olds, that were there for the PAHHH-TEEE. When I phoned the desk and told them those kids had to go, I never heard another door slam or loud car engine - not a peep the rest of the night. There are also construction crews that stay there (as there are in every hotel down there!) and I've never had to complain about any of them. They're usually dog-tired when they get in and its quiet until they leave again at daybreak.
I make sure my door is double bolted and scoot the chair up under the doorknob too. The windows aren't the best, but I bring some little safety devices to warn me if anyone's coming thru a window. I never walk around the room without slippers or heavy socks on, because I'm not crazy about the carpets being so old and dark - never know whats on those in ANY HOTEL. (I am used to this - I do it at home just for comfort!)
This room costs me only $50-55/night, and I've stayed for a week or more sometimes. I go down there from Ohio several times a year and volunteer for 3 historical societies in 3 counties surrounding the hotel - and I love it down there! The ladies at the desk are the greatest!
If you want to spend more than $100/night - go to the Comfort Suites in Prestonsburg! There aren't a lot of hotels in that tri-county area that are affordable! I don't mind taking some extra precautions when the price is right and the staff is so willing to go all out for their guests. If I ever saw a bug or felt threatened there, I'd never go back again. Do your pocketbook a favor - don't spend so much just to have a room in a fancy hotel with all the same dangers! Those dangers are EVERYWHERE - don't be fooled. Be prepared and alert - and don't spend more than you have to! It's SO worth it..
