I could write a lengthy review about how I'd been on the road driving for 9 hours; how I was really looking forward to a clean, comfortable hotel room; about how all I wanted to do was check my e-mail, watch some TV and fall asleep in peace and quiet. I could tell you all that, but I'll skip the details and just tell you what I found.
1. The room, located on the second floor, was clearly marked as a non-smoking room. So the first thing that strikes you as you walk into the room is this distinctive CHEMICAL odor, an odor being employed to hide the obvious odor of musty cigarette smoke. It permeates the furniture, pillows and towels. Nice try, but either this room "goes both ways" as a smoking/ non-smoking room or the smoke odor from the 3rd floor sank to and polluted the 2nd. Don't bother asking for a non-smoking room at this hotel.
2. Dust in the corners. Never a good sign in a hotel. Makes you question the overall cleanliness of the room (eg. the sheets, towels, bathtub....). Yuck.
3. The room was warm and the chemical odor was overwhelming. So I immediately turned on the fan/ air conditioner. IT MADE A CLUNKING NOISE ALL NIGHT LONG! I think one of the fan blades was bent and keep knocking against the guts of the air conditioner. Needless to say, I didn't get that "peaceful" night sleep I'd so badly wanted.
4. The wash clothes were old ,rough, fraying and very gray. I don't think we have dust rags in my home that are that bad.
5. The television set was a terrible. I wasn't expecting a 42 inch HDTV. But I was expecting decent cable/ satellite signal. Nope. The image was snowy on most channels.
6. But worst of all was the "High Speed" Internet. After signing in, I went to get my email. I clicked and waited and waited and waited .... I went to the bathroom and came back and my email still had not loaded!! I called the front desk for assistance. She didn't have a clue, and she kind of smirked when I mentioned how slow it was in downloading. I'm going to guess that is not the first time she has heard that complaint. Never did get to my emails.
7. When it came time to set up a wake-up call, I found out that the fancy phone system they have in each room doesn't quite work. After pushing the instructed number on the display and getting a rapid busy, I did it the old fashioned way - I called the front desk and requested a wake-up. She already knew that the automated system was broken.
Look, I could have overlooked any one or two of these mishaps. I'm not trying to be picky. I know it's not the Ritz. But taken all together, this place would definitely qualify as "a DUMP". It is in need of a major overhaul. And until that happens, STAY SOMEPLACE ELSE!!
