Non-human animals get, and deserve, better lodging.
While having a marriage separation in February 2006 and attending school at the local university, my soon-to be ex-husband booked a room (sight unseen) at a weekly rate for me, not realizing it was a motel (despite the name.) We were Paducah residents. When he checked me in, there was dried vomit on the walls, the HVAC system was missing entirely from one of the suite's halves (leaving a huge, person-sized hole in the wall beneath the window in the winter), furniture was broken or missing in both sides, tenants of adjoining units were dropping glass bottles from the balcony as I checked in, and there were disabled vehicles resting upon "blocks" in the parking lot.
[I'm not a world traveler; however, as a child, I lived in motels, hotels, and efficiencies across the United States long before things were supposedly as well-regulated as they are now. I was never exposed to such conditions--I stayed at the same site as the Murray Country Hearth in the '80's back when it was considered a dive (Holiday Inn)...that was a four-star compared to the way it is now.]
Although things weren't exactly the most amicable between us, my ex- demanded a refund for my pending week's lodging and moved me to AmeriHost Inn, which was far superior by being a hotel, being safe, and by offering an awesome weekly rate with wonderful staff. Following that incident I've since heard similar reports of horrid lodging conditions from folks who were lodged there for events and employee training.
Avoid Country Hearth at all costs. I was prepared to sleep in my car and enjoy it after seeing the conditions at Country Hearth.
