This trip brings me to the lovely dump of Murray Kentucky. Probably can't say enough negative about the Staff at this establishment. I was greeted by two gentlemen working the front desk; one obviously suffered from a socialy debilitating disorder; though he was trying his absolute hardest; his counterpart had one of the worst cases of narcissistic personality disorder I have come across in a long time (felt like reccomending institutionalization for him after I got checked in.) This combonation makes for a "real nice" welcome to a hotel after a long trip.
Fact is I travel a lot for work - in my several years of traveling I have become fond of Expedia and Priceline as I can pocket the savings vs. what I charge for my trip. Beyond that the convience of paying for the hotel at the time of booking is a good thing in my eyes; for me it makes life easier. This particular trip it caused me some issues - Generally I am used to the Hotels authorizing my card for incedintals - this Hotel wanted to authorize my card for room rate plus incidentals (I already paid for the rooms..) This did not thrill me...I've stay in hotels once a week...this isn't commonplace. I also generally travel with small amounts of cash and I don't bring my personal credit and debit cards - JUST ONE! A lot of the time I am not with my personal effects - I've had wallets stolen many times! Well I advised Sir Narcissistic that I simplywould not let Holiday Inn authorize my card AGAIN plus "incidentals" ( give me a break; this is a two star hotel with vending machines and a view of a trailer park...really incedentals could one incurr? ) but its "Holiday Inn's Policy" (yeah right) Eventually we worked out a suitable arrangement - though after spending 20 minutes at the front desk; this hotel owner DESPERATLEY needs to secret shop his staff. Honestly this is another hotel is should have walked out at hello on.
The property itself is okay. I knew what I was getting into - Murray has a population of 17K...10K of which attend Murray State University (no comment)..the town is podunk - so don't expect much. I can't tell if this hotel is an old remodel or a new hotel..kind of has the feel of a remodeled hotel; which is fine. It's pretty clean it - just has a horrendus staff; right down to the girl that answers the phone.
What to Expect:
-A Clean room with decent ammenities (in real life this a a 1 star property).
-A lovely view of the Local Trailer Park.
-A Rude Staff (You will run into people with clinical personality disorders; by the time you get here they may have run out of the ProZac samples I left them)
-Close to MSU
All in all...I wish I had paid the extra $24 a night and stayed at Hampton Inn...I usually dodge Holiday Inns..this was a bittersweet reminder as to why.
- Holiday Inn Murray
- Murray Holiday Inn
