“Where I come from...we practice Southern Hospitality.”

This trip brings me to the lovely dump of Murray Kentucky. Probably can't say enough negative about the Staff at this establishment. I was greeted by two gentlemen working the front desk; one obviously suffered from a socialy debilitating disorder; though he was trying his absolute hardest; his counterpart had one of the worst cases of narcissistic personality disorder I have come across in a long time (felt like reccomending institutionalization for him after I got checked in.) This combonation makes for a "real nice" welcome to a hotel after a long trip.

Fact is I travel a lot for work - in my several years of traveling I have become fond of Expedia and Priceline as I can pocket the savings vs. what I charge for my trip. Beyond that the convience of paying for the hotel at the time of booking is a good thing in my eyes; for me it makes life easier. This particular trip it caused me some issues - Generally I am used to the Hotels authorizing my card for incedintals - this Hotel wanted to authorize my card for room rate plus incidentals (I already paid for the rooms..) This did not thrill me...I've stay in hotels once a week...this isn't commonplace. I also generally travel with small amounts of cash and I don't bring my personal credit and debit cards - JUST ONE! A lot of the time I am not with my personal effects - I've had wallets stolen many times! Well I advised Sir Narcissistic that I simplywould not let Holiday Inn authorize my card AGAIN plus "incidentals" ( give me a break; this is a two star hotel with vending machines and a view of a trailer park...really incedentals could one incurr? ) but its "Holiday Inn's Policy" (yeah right) Eventually we worked out a suitable arrangement - though after spending 20 minutes at the front desk; this hotel owner DESPERATLEY needs to secret shop his staff. Honestly this is another hotel is should have walked out at hello on.

The property itself is okay. I knew what I was getting into - Murray has a population of 17K...10K of which attend Murray State University (no comment)..the town is podunk - so don't expect much. I can't tell if this hotel is an old remodel or a new hotel..kind of has the feel of a remodeled hotel; which is fine. It's pretty clean it - just has a horrendus staff; right down to the girl that answers the phone.

What to Expect:

-A Clean room with decent ammenities (in real life this a a 1 star property).

-A lovely view of the Local Trailer Park.

-A Rude Staff (You will run into people with clinical personality disorders; by the time you get here they may have run out of the ProZac samples I left them)

-Close to MSU

All in all...I wish I had paid the extra $24 a night and stayed at Hampton Inn...I usually dodge Holiday Inns..this was a bittersweet reminder as to why.

Room Tip: Just Avoid this one. It's a bittersweet reminder why I don't patronize Holiday Inn Often. Ha...

“Good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

I arrived early and had to wait a few minutes before someone showed up at reception. Because I was early, I had to join a Holiday Inn club of some sort. It was free, so I said yes.

When I checked in I think I may have been the only one in my room. I did some cleaning (they have a washing machine and dryer - cost $1 each) and the elevator was always on the floor I left it on, even though I did go back and forward quite often. Why couldn't I just check in without joining?

I booked a suite which was nice and clean. Internet access was free and fast. I asked the person working nights for different things (like if they had stamps, where the nearest post office was etc) but he could not answer as he had been working there only for three weeks.

If you don't care about things like that, stay here. Rooms are good and worth the price.

“Good hotel to stay in Murray”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

We stayed here during Thanksgiving time while visiting family for almost a week - using priority club points. Our room was clean but I felt like the carpet was old. The only minor problems I had with the room was that the lighting wasn't great. There was no make up mirror and I wear glasses so to get close to a mirror I had to go to the large one in the room and the lighting was bad. The front desk staff was nice. The breakfast was great! There was always fresh food and a good variety. My husband said the coffee was good. The lobby area smells like chlorine from the hot tub and the pool which is indoor on the lobby level. We didn't use the pool or spa but had to walk by it to get to the fitness room. I say room because I can't call it a center....it is VERY tiny. There was 2 treadmills and one bike and that's it. However, we went early in the morning when it opened and there was never anyone there so it worked out. The lock on the fitness room was broken so the front desk clerk had to let us in each morning but he was nice. There is plenty of parking and the grounds are nice. Murray is small so everything is in driving distance/close by. You can't walk to anything though because it is on a major road. It was quite though. I would stay here again.

“Visit to Murray”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

The Holiday Inn Express was a nice clean hotel and I would stay again. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. The elevator was very slow and we were on the third floor so we ended up walking the stairs. The Wi-Fi was terrible! The only place I could connect was in the hallway outside my room. The man at the desk would not believe that I could get connected. He gave me a ethernet cable and that worked. Overall I was pleased with our stay. Although be sure you check Advisor for cost of room vs going direct to the desk. Trip Advisor was cheaper.

“A good place to stay...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

The Holiday Inn Express in Murray, KY was a good choice for me. I was visiting MSU so the location for me was very good. There are plenty of shops and dining facilities in the imediate area to choose from. I wouldn't recommend trying to walk anywhere from the hotel. The hotel is in good condition overall and the room itself is in good condition. There was a very strong odor of cleaning solution when I first entered the lobby of the hotel. The hotel staff are very firendly. The room is of good size and proportion. All the furnishings, electronics and lamps in the room are in good working order. The bed is quite comfortable. The pillows are not lumpy. Even though the hotel is located beside a very busy four lane highway the road noise is actually minimal. The bathroom is organized and not cluttered; it is also clean. Breakfast which is included in the rate is very nice! You get the same standard items found on all hotel breakfast menus (yogurt, various breads, cold cereal) but there are hot items too! There isn't much seating in the breakfast area which is a bit of a negative. The hotel does have a business center but I did not use it. The fitness center is standard and all the machines were in working order. I feel this was a good chioce for me and I would stay here again.
