“Loved it!”

This hotel was great. Room was gorgeous and comfortable (although the bathroom was a bit unimpressive.) I have bedbug phobia, did a full search and found no evidence of any bedbugs. YAY!

It was really moving to see how the community uses the exhibition space. We LOVED feeling like we were sleeping in an art gallery, I suppose we were.

The restaurants were another story, though. Both the bar and resto had some really terrible service. Lots of indifferent hipsters versus a real wait staff. It's a shame because it's the only thing stopping this hotel from being truly world-class. We were late for the airport because for some unexplained reason, our brunch took an eternity to arrive even though it wasn't busy in there.

Would recommend this place to anyone that is into art / culture, boutique hotels, or just looking for a neat experience.

“Art”

We have stayed at this hotel several times - it is 70 miles from home and becomes a true destination for us. Everything about the hotel is perfect - the attentive staff, the contemporary art, the decor and the sensitivity of the renovation. This is a perfect place.

“What a gem!”

We stayed at 21C over New Years' and had a wonderful experience. It's such an anomaly in terms of being a high-end boutique hotel with incredible art (particularly in this area) and it's incredibly well done. We stayed in a corner suite which was a great, spacious room with nice styling (in a pleasing, not intrusive sort of way) and had a great bathroom too. The only complaint is that a full dining room table was probably not necessary and seemed to be there only to fill the additional space created by the L-shape of the room.

The staff are friendly, the exhibits interesting and thought-provoking, and they have don't charge for wireless (seriously, who can justify charging for wireless?). Good drinks in the bar (although the staff were quite inattentive and slow) and decent food in the restaurant. Overall, great stay.

Also, the New Years' Eve party was great because how often do you get to have an adult-oriented, uncrowded, stylish dance party? And in an art gallery at that? Good music, good art, and upstairs in bed by 1am if you so choose. It was a great way to spend NYE.

“If you are into pedophilia, this is your spot.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This is a very nice facility with interesting architectural features and decor. It is clean with a helpful staff but very expensive. However, had I known the hotel would present pedophilia masquerading as "art" I would not have stayed here. At the time of our stay, they were hosting the "art" (and I am using that term extremely loosely) of Anthony Goicolea. Google it.

Thank you for taking the time to write. Our founders’ goal in sharing contemporary art with the public is to stimulate thought and discussion and certainly not to personally offend.

Alter Ego: A Decade of Work by Anthony Goicolea has been planned for several years and it was co-organized by the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Telfair Museums in collaboration with 21c Museum. Anthony Goicolea is one of the most celebrated and respected artists working today. His subject matter ranges from adolescent rites of passage to family history and environmental decay. The artist’s intentions are to reveal the complexity of the human experience. It is not his intention to promote pedophilia or the victimization of children. I encourage you to read more on our website 21cMuseum.org and visit anthonygoicolea.com to learn more.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about the exhibition. We hope you'll visit again in the future. If you'd like to speak with me personally, I would welcome the opportunity.

Best regards,
Craig Pishotti

“Go to the Gault House instead!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The art? Well look up Goicolea - sick pedophilia is what we had to endure. And facility wise - nothing special. Go to the Gault House.
