I know...you get what you pay for. Still, this was, overall, one of the miserable stays I have ever had at a hotel. Days Inn is a big chain and should be doing better than this.
Some of my negative experiences were not the company's fault...like pulling up and having difficulty finding a parking place (OK, it is a popular hotel) and immediately being approached by someone asking for gas money. The lobby reeked of smoke and while checking in I specifically reminded the desk employee that I had asked for a non-smoking room No problem. After finding our room in the maze of hallways (never seen anything quite like it) we got to the room and saw a "smoking" sign on the door, smelled smoked and saw an ashtray. Called down and was told I had reserved a smoking room...guess I could have made that mistake, but I had asked at the desk. Changed rooms. New room had dirty carpet with food, fingernail clippings and other debris on floor. By then, it was almost 1:00 a.m. and we went to bed. On our second night, we came back from our football game to find that my son's car had a busted window and items stolen. Policeman said that this was not "the safest area of town". So...beware. Sometimes you get what you pay for and it turns out I should have paid more.
