this review concerns the SOUTH location - not the NORTH location - and based on reviews from this site and the convenient location I made reservations at this hotel. the cab from LEX airport dropped me off at about midnight (delays in Atlanta of course), and I went in the small lobby to check-in for three nights.
The check-in person was was very nice and pleasant and put me in a room on the third floor. I had lots of time to notice how worn and grungy the reception area was because of their new computer system.
Getting to the elevator entailed going back outside the lobby and struggling with my luggage around the corner of the building, and walking down a dirty cement walkway to a central area where the elevator was. the cement around the elevator was spattered with what looked like blood, as was the elevator which was extremely dirty.
once at the third floor the walkway was even more filthy and there was the same trail of 'blood' spatters. just as bad, there was a paper-plate size splotch of what looked like old vomit just outside the elevator.
dreading what the room might look like, and feeling totally spent after a long day of traveling, I unlocked the front door of my room and saw the icing on the cake: bare box-springs, thin mattress, worn bedding, marred furniture, and overall depressing 'decor'.
even though it was after midnight, and I was way tired, I backed out of the room, struggled back to the elevator, back down to the reception area and checked-out.; then called a cab and spent another $25 to get across town to check in at the Sheraton Four Points - ~$20 more per night.
to their benefit, the Red Roof Inn night desk person was gracious and kind and a little apologetic.
i'm not a hotel snob, and have stayed at hotels that cost less per night than this one ($67 per night including tax). this Red Roof Inn is not up to the brand standards and the dirt looked like it had been accumulating for a long time.
As of today I'm at another Red Roof Inn in Ocala, FL, and very pleased with the value for my money - clean, clean, clean - and an interior elevator/staircase which made me feel much safer.
