“Loved it!”

We have been going to Ky Dam Village for years and just love the peaceful resort. This trip was especially nice because the staff at the lodge - especially at the front desk ladies - were so helpful and sweet. Also - there was a problem with the air conditioner in our cabin when we arrived and the staff got right on it and took care of us. We had another wonderful Labor Day vacation!

“Thoroughly surprised!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

I was a little underwhelmed with the thought of spending time in a state park resort...with our state putting employees on unpaid furloughs, my first preconceived notions included: run down, shabby, ill-managed, etc.

When I called to make reservations, I was greeted by an amazingly professional and helpful clerk, who cheerfully took great care of me....when I called the week of my business event to amend my reservation, however...it took me several (read: at least 10) calls to get through. Once I did, my reservation was changed without a problem. I equated this problem to calling during a rush time...maybe folks were checking out and trying to check in at the same time...?

My mom and I arrived to my conference mid-morning and to our surprise, the clerk was happy to check us in, two hours early! Sweet!

When we entered our room, I was actually shocked...the room was modern, very clean and actually rather adorable. I was also pleasantly surprised with the free wifi! Woohoo!

Throughout the room were black and white vintage prints of the lake and guests from years past...a really nice touch and a great departure from generic watercolor flowers you mostly see in hotel rooms nowadays.

The bathroom was clean and well kept, but one minor complaint...the housekeeping staff had not cleaned out the ice bucket from the previous guest...contained inside was standing water and some bugs. Blargh. Also, they left no plastic liner, so when I needed some ice that evening, I took our plastic cups instead.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and combined with the amazing snacks and the evening meal the in-house chef had prepared for us, I would DEFINITELY return for a leisure visit with my family!

StPatricksGirl79, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your positive and truthful reveiw of Kentucky Dam Village. We pride ourself in how we treat our guests who come and stay with us. Yes, we are an entity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and our number one goal is to provide a quality experience. I have shared your review with not only the Chef at our restaurant; but, also, our housekeeping staff. Our Chef prides himself in a quality meal and it is great to hear when someone enjoys it. Rest assured, we are taking steps to assure such an issue (though maybe minor for some) as a dirty ice bucket does not happen to others. Thank you for your positive review of the status of our Lodge rooms.
We look forward to your return stay with us.

“Relaxing Get-away”

We spent 2 nights and 3 days at KDV post Memorial Day weekend (NOT crowded at all!). Our lake-view rooms were quiet, clean, comfortable and spacious. Bed linens were clean-smelling and fresh, we slept great! Bathrooms were clean and towels were fluffy, clean and the supply was ample.

Lodge restaurant: we had dinner once and breakfast twice, of the two, breakfast had the best variety of food and offered the best value (breakfast buffet was great!).

Swimming pool was OK but somewhat small. Park grounds and trails were OK.

“Another Good KY Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

My wife and I enjoy quiet getaways and vacations as opposed to trips to larger cities, urban areas, and high "touristy" destinations. Because of this, over the last few years we have taken advantage of many of the 'resorts' that the Kentucky State Park System operates.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park isn't our absolute favorite, but it is certainly near the top of the list. Like most of the other resort parks, KDV is an a fairly secluded location in a very natural setting. The lodge is similar to a typical motel that you would find off of any interstate, but with much better scenery and atmosphere. Most of the rooms have decent views of the lake and have either a private patio or balcony depending on the location of the room. Also, the lodge is in close proximity to the marina, which is supposedly the largest on the lake. So if you're a boater, KDV should be right up your alley.

Like other state resorts we have stayed at, the restaurant unfortunately is very hit and miss. The dinner we had during the night of our stay was mediocre at best, and the service was sporadic as the wait staff seemed to be scattered (both physically and mentally). Breakfast the next morning, however, was excellent! The food was great and the service was much better than the night before. I really wish the State Park Service would work on their restaurants, because most of the resorts are several miles away from other dining establishments.

Overall, KDV is a nice quiet getaway in a great location. We felt that the service was above average thoroughly enjoyed our weekend there. If you're looking to spend a few days on the lake or at Land Between the Lakes, I recommend this resort as an alternative to your typical chain motel.
