“Great location, friendly hotel, comfortable rooms, but next to the train tracks.”

We selected this hotel at the last minute in the middle of our breeders cup weekend, as the hotel we planned on staying in for two nights was not suitable.

We were very pleasantly surprised. Upon our late arrival, our room was held for us, we checked in quickly and we were able to enjoy a quick dip in the indoor pool and hot tub, which are open until 11pm.

The beds were clean, comfortable and the room was a nice size. We didn't hear any noise from adjoining rooms. However, the railroad tracks are behind this hotel. The train passed about 3-4 times per night. There were NO disturbing train whistles, but if you are a light sleeper, you will hear the train go by.

The breakfast was really good, offering bagels, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, granola, walnuts, hard boiled eggs, and various items in the refrigerator, such as jimmy dean sausage and eggs.

If not for the train, I would have rated this hotel much, much higher.

“The hotel is situated in a bank of hotels...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

The hotel is situated in a bank of hotels & restaurants of highway 65. It is not far from Ft. Knox and about 10 of so minutes from a little mall and tons of other food places. You could literally walk and get a nice bite to eat. Anyway, I chose this hotel as there were no higher end hotels & this was the closet mid tiered hotels that you could choose in the area without staying in Louisville. Parking is free, internet is free, & there is made to honor waffles & Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches available. We haven't tried the food but when walking pass the breakfast area, it seemed like people were satisfied. The staff has been friendly. I read before booking that people had issues with the staff but I have had none. The room is a decent sized room. It has double beds, dresser, desk & chair with a computer connection, & a decent enough night stand between the two beds. The bathroom is large enough without many real complaints about its size. The mattresses are firm but a little on the soft side. If you have any back issues, these mattresses may give you fits.
Areas where the room went south begin with the toilet. There is something wrong with that toilet in how it flushes. It sounds as if the entire mechanism within the tank is hitting the top of the tank when you press the handle to flush the toilet. The handle is too loose or too something but its not right. We mentioned to the staff that there was a problem with the toilet & they said they would fix it while we were away, if the did, it seems worse. Now the handle has to be held to flush it. I didn't make extra fuss about it, as this is our last night & I don't want to deal with maintenance people in & out of the room.
My second issue is that the air conditioner does have a temperature setting. It is either hot or cold & does it get cold too. You end up cutting it on and off yourself to set the optimum temperature & that gets annoying. The unit also looks like the vents on it have never been cleaned. They are dirty and there is no mistake about that. I am a little taken aback by that but the unit works. I downgraded the rooms cleanliness because the air conditioner.
One other minor issue that I have is that if you wish to plug anything between the beds so that you could charge it and have it on the nightstand, then you'll have to unplug the clock or the lamp. There simply aren't enough wall outlets in this room. On the bed closest to the door there is an additional outlet but all the outlets near the tables or desk have something plugged into at least one of them, so if need more outlets, you will be forced to unplug something u need. At the desk I must mention that there is an additional plug on the lamp. Why there is no additional outlet between the beds on the lamp on the nightstand is beyond me.
Anyway, its not the best but it is a decent enough nights stay. We knew people that were staying in the Super 8 & The Comfort Inn and neither of them were happy with their stays. They thought both places weren't clean. So again, this is not the Ritz-Carlton but is an alright stay for the price. Under $100 for AARP & AAA. None of the travel sites could beat that & I looked at them all.

“Enjoyable Stay. No Complaints.”

My family had the occasion to stay at the Fairfiled Inn in Elizabethtown twice in the past month due to an athletic event in the area in which my child participated. Both times the front desk staff, particularly Ashley, was helpful and accommodating. Our room was a double-double. It was clean and inviting. The furnishings were fairly new, plenty of pillows which were of good quality; bedding was comfortable, nice desk chair and reading chair. The room featured a flat screen TV and free wireless. The bathroom was large, nice granite vanity with plenty of room for toiletries, make-up etc and contained plenty of towels. The hotel offers free breakfast in a large breakfast area with plenty of tables and chairs. Nice breakfast offerings from waffles you make in a waffle maker to yogurt, a variety of cereals and oatmeal, bagels, muffins, spreads, breakfast sandwiches to heat and heat, coffee bar, juices, etc. The breakfast area attendant was attentive and constantly cleaning the food bar and the tables. The breakfast area was used throughout the day by those eating lunch from local fast food places or just sitting and chatting. It gave the hotel a friendly, family feel. The lobby area has places to hook up your laptop and/or cell phones to recharge. Nearby are several restaurants - Cracker Barrel, Ruby Tuesday, fast food, etc. All in all, a nice motel. Both times we stayed the hotel was full but the room was quiet and we got a great night's sleep. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

“Nice remodeled hotel, good value, questionable bedding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

I stayed at the Fairfield in E-town for 1 night on a business trip that brough me through the area. I had stayed at the Hampton across the street which I also liked previously, but I have most of my points with Marriott now so I thought I'd give the Fairfield a try after reading mostly good reviews. I was pleasantly surprised at the amenities, particularly room configuration with semi-divided work area sofa, fridge, etc. It actually reminded me a little of the newer Springhill Suites layout of their rooms. At $107 AAA rate the price was good. I liked the large flat screens, and was impressed that they actually had 2 in my room, one in front of the bed and another in the work/sofa area. I think older hotels that are stuck with crummy old "box" televisions are going to feel the heat to upgrade now that just about everybody (including Fairfield) is putting in flat screens. Anyway my only disappointment was that I did not sleep particurly well that night. The bed and pillows were both a little firm for my taste, but I think it also could have been my own state of mind contributing to a less than restful night, so I'm not going to rule out staying at the Fairfield again in the future and giving them another try.
