“Would not recommend - wait till renovations are done”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

This was our fourth HIE in 7 days, and by far the worst. We booked a family suite, just as we had in the previous HEI's (Fremont IN was *the best*), but unlike the others, this one in Corbin had no kitchenette, not even a microwave or a mini frig. The front desk person offered to let us keep our items in the refrigerator there behind the desk, and to come downstairs and use the microwave when we would need it, but the point is we paid for a family suite with kitchenette and got something else. (Note, the HEI website says "Before snuggling into the triple-sheeted bed, use the microwave and refrigerator to fix and store snacks")

As far as it being a family suite, this hotel basically joined a regular room to a bedroom, with the door between them at the back end of the room. The smaller room had no air unit of its own, and two hours after arriving it was still a sweatbox. There is no separate sitting area as in every other suite we've stayed in.

Other annoyances - they put us on the 3rd floor but the elevator was out of order, the stairwells were at least 90 degrees and had dead bugs on the floors. The room had hardware mounted to tables and walls where things had been removed, there was no luggage rack to put your suitcase on. The TV Channel lineup in the room is completely wrong, and if you call the front desk they insist it is correct (For instance, 98 is listed as HBO, calling the front desk to say that 98 is a music channel, how do I get HBO, she actually told me "You press 9, then 8, and wait for it to change channels!) They offer no perks as the others did for Priority Club Platinum at check-in either.

At breakfast, the food was decent, but the staff was absent. Garbage can was overflowing with trash, the pancake machine was flashing that it needed a new batter bag, and no one was at the front desk or in the kitchen. A quick walk out front found 3 staff plus the front desk person having a cigarette break.

Of the 4 HEI's we stayed at during this vacation, this one charged us the most money and gave us the worst experience. FWIW, we booked it through the Priority Club reservation desk. The other HEI's we stayed at exceeded our expectations, so this one may get there too, but for now, keep your expectations low or you will be disappointed and upset like we were.

Room Tip: Talk directly to the hotel - don't rely on Priority Club reservation staff to truly know the con...

“Will not be back!”

Our credit card was charged for a two night stay when we only stayed one night. After several calls to them we asked if we could speak to the manger. We were told he only works at night. We asked that he contact us even though it would be late. He never returned our call. I was told by a very rude person over the phone that my account had been credited when in fact it had not. I am still working on getting my money back. Upon check the lady behind the county said "if a housekeeper knocks on your door please don't be rude to them". She could use some training in customer service! We will not be staying there again!!!

“Not quite the standard you'd expect”

This hotel, tucked away behind McDonalds, is easy to miss due to the lack of signage. Be aware that the parking lot entrance is between McDonalds and Speedway. Before I'd even checked in, the woman at the front desk crabbily informed me, "I'm the only one here so don't bother to call if you want something. You'll have to come to the front desk for extra towels and stuff." Fair enough, but not very welcoming.

The public spaces (lobby, hallways, dining area) looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in a few days, but the room itself appeared clean and tidy. To be perfectly honest though, the pillows on the bed looked suspiciously like they'd been slept on already. Maybe the pillowcases had simply been balled up in the dryer for too long, but while the sniff test revealed nothing one way or the other, I'm not convinced the cases were fresh.

We didn't use the outdoor pool but from our window it looked clean and inviting. The wi-fi was easy to connect to and fast enough, although users have to reenter the access code every time the browser is opened. The complimentary breakfast was fine; the scrambled eggs were soggy and the hotel didn't offer flavored creamers for the coffee, but otherwise it was your standard Holiday Inn Express breakfast.

Something to keep in mind when booking this hotel: Corbin is located in a dry county. There are a few nearby restaurants that serve alcohol by the glass; Dino's Italian Restaurant and Lounge is next door to the hotel, and Applebee's is just up the street.

“Standard HI Express Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Stayed here for one night on our way to elsewhere. Nothing out of the ordinary, either good or bad - pretty much a standard HI Express, including breakfast. There were some apparent locals hanging around the breakfast area, but they did not bother us.

We were showered and fed early and on our way! Lots of nearby gas stations to speed up getting on the road.

“Hotel is dirty, smells like smoke & staff is unkempt, rude.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2011

On a family road trip, we specifically chose Holiday Inn Express locations at which to stay each night. On the night we stayed at this location, it was midnight, and we could drive no further so we checked in here.

The hotel is under renovations and is filthy. They allow smoking in the rooms, and though we had a non-smoking room, it did nothing to stave off the stink. Our room, all the halls, everywhere, stunk like smoke.

Their pool was filthy, and there were worms and leaves in the bottom of it.

There was mould in the bathroom tub and tile grout. The sink was dirty.

The room was unkempt. The bed was made, but furniture was all over the place - lamps on the floor, the dresser in front of a mirror. It was completely bizarre, and not like any other Holiday Inn Express we've been in.

In the morning upon checking out, we tried to get some breakfast for our children but they packed up the food before 9:30am and refused to give us even a banana.

Sadly, I forgot some items there. When I called to have them shipped the ignorant general manager said he wasn't sure "how to get them all the way to Canada". He was beligerent, condescending, and when I told him he could simply charge our card and call it whatever he wanted, he said, "I will not be talked ugly to, I am going to hang up on you" and he did just that.

I've never in my life had such a vile experience at a hotel. Had I wanted this kind of stay, I'd have chosen a roach motel for $40 a night, not a well-known chain for almost $100.

AVOID.
